Wow...great find today. I saw some Kershaw and Buck Knives made in the USA. A few small SAK's made by the Swiss and many cheap China blades by Gerber. I am not really a Buck 110 and Buck 119 type, but the Buck 143 Paklite Skinner (made in USA) caught my eye fast. My Becker BK11 is 1095 steel and this Buck 143 is 420HC Stainless. I could not get my cc out fast enough as this is a great buy for $19.97. I would have gotten two, but they only had one in stock.

I've been seeing them for the past couple months now when I go in there. It's a neat design for sure. Have you handled it yet? The only thing keeping me jumping on it is the skeletonized handle. Can't say I've ever been a fan of those.

I found this cord wrap on you tube, it takes about 10 minutes. I'm going to buy another and make some wood scales for it. It's a great little knife, comes hair popping sharp. Like the idea of stainless, no worries around the camp and water. I am going to find a way to strap it to one of my larger knives

I like that knife alot. I havent gotten one yet but probably will. It needs a good slim kydex sheath for it.

I love mine...i think it's every bit as nice as an ESEE izula or becker Bk11 (got all three). At a third the price of the izula and half of the bk11 I think she's a great deal :D A decent kydex sheath would be a welcome addition though.

I agree 100% what you just said:thumbup: I only have the Becker BK11 and Buck 143. I think at 2oz each that I will carry a large knife and these two small knives for small jobs. One BK11 (1095CV) and one Buck 143 (420HC). One hard working steel the other stainless. The Buck is way bigger in size.

I carry a large main blade so I like the skeletonized handle to save weight. I also use leather gloves with both.

Here is a quick photo comparo i did in my shop this morning, BK11,BK14, Izula and the Paklite. I have various scales on the others but so far just a cord wrap on th Paklite. I find the egg shaped handle on the Paklite very comfortable and it fills the palm well. I didnt do any scientific sharpness tests but i can tell you that out of the box The paklite is sharper than the BK and just as sharp and maybe sharper then the Izula. I wish the Paklite had a Kydex sheath but the sheath that comes with it is no more bulky than the BK sheath, especialy the BK sheath with the T.D.I. belt clip installed. Also if you just want to stick it in your pocket the flexible nylon sheath is more comfortable. I like the minimal care stainless steel of the Paklite, especialy if you want to throw it in a tackle or toolbox and forget it until needed and for $20 you can do that. I'm going to get at least one more to make some wood scales for, then look for a kydex sheath or make one myself.

I've contemplated getting one and adding wood handle to it, and like the parachord wrap except if you use it as intended, a skinner, I imagine that parachord would get pretty rank, but prefer a guthook on a skinner so havn't done it yet.

Great pics. The becker BK11 has the best sheath, but the best value is the Buck by a long shot. All three made in the USA:thumbup:

I'm pretty impressed with the Paklites for the money they seem to be a great value, definitly no-frills.

I carry the Paklite but could not resist the temptation to mess with one. I added g-10 handles and polished all exposed metal. To be honest, I like the para chord idea better as i think it will offer more grip.
Cleaning it will be an added step but I am hoping you can do that wrap in a way that makes it easy to undo and then clean? I'll check out the video.
Thanks,

Now Joe, you can't just come on here and make a statement like that without posting a picture of it. ;-)

Rats, I was hoping no one noticed that.
I'll dig the knife out of my pack and get some pics posted tomorrow.

Another who picked up and own a 143 and am thinking about picking up another to mod with G10 handles.

Own the smaller 140's in plain and black. Use them box stock. This series of knives by Buck are a great bang for the Buck. They will work all day without a fuss.

I found this thread via search. Was about to start a "ESEE Izula vs Buck Paklite Skinner" thread.

The ESEE Knives RAT Cutlery Izula is 6 1/4" overall. 2 1/2" drop point blade. One piece 1095 high carbon steel construction.

The Buck Paklite Skinner - 2-7/8" Skinning Blade, 420HC Stainless Steel blade and handle (one piece).

Can anybody comment on the ergonomics or the 1095 versus 420HC?

Can't help you on the ergonomics.

I have a few carbon steel knives and hate rust. I will not buy anything but stainless steel now, I don't care how much better an edge it might hold.

Well, I just ordered the Paklite Skinner on line, so I guess I can answer my own question on the ergonomics of it. Just wanted a comparison to the Izula, if possible.

I was tempted to get the Paklite Caper as well. I don't like the appearance quite as much, although I assume it's a bit lighter, which might be a good option. I'll evaluated that once I have (and use) the Skinner for a bit.
