Buck 301 and 303 Who's Got 'em

Got a pic of the 301, would love to see it?

Here is a first version Schrade 301 with grooved bolsters.

Thanks for the pic Chris. That 301 is by far my favorite Buck production made knife ever. I also have a Primble made on the same pattern that I like alot.

Bear Claw is taking over responsibilty for almost all things 301 with my gratitude. Working on a couple of other folks for a model or two also.....I call it "spreading the love"....

Everyone always remember the "NO FAIL" Schrade/Camillus test. If its got rivets, rub the bolster briskly on your jeans then breath on it. Your moist breath should bring out the outline of the Cami bolster pin. Try the other end also, some bolsters show it better than others. Rivets and no pin showing most likely a Schrade. Bolster pin showing Camillus all day long.......do that a few times and you will learn the look of the differences and then can confirm with the RAPID RUB AND BREATH test......be a cautious buyer of a used first version online, as they cannot be tweaked if you have a loose blade.

Nice photo of a nice first version. Not that knives aren't made well now, because they are, but that knife was made in the 60's most likely by someone who had worked at Schrade his whole working life. And I think that shows......in the ole days it was called apprenticeship and experience.......I always wish for some of that in others, as well as myself.....

Thanks Bear Claw. When got it it was still in a little Schrade plastic bag. It still has that green grease on the joints.

Can't get any better! I finally have scored a 1st version Schrade 301 that's on it's way here now, I have a 2nd like yours and just need to find a 3rd version to have all the Schrade contracts.

Carry the 301DW in my back right pocket, I like the larger size of the 301 but admit the 303 is more of a pocket size. Thanks for all the photos all.

I really like the 303's and have several. However I recieved a Buck 371 for Christmas, couldn't resist modding it a bit with canvas micarta scales and a revised blade layout. The knife was very well made considering the cost and Chinese origin. This will be my EDC for a little while.

Looks good, nice work.

Mark G I'll bet that 301 is perfect for cleaning any ducks you get!

Looks good to me. Like the scales and mod is interesting enough I would try one to see if I like it with both secondary blades on one end. I think I might........

Guys, Buck is coming out with some new 300s, including 301s and 303s. Look for a Cherrywood (radiused bolsters) shaped knife in YELLOW micarta with new blue shield.

Two sets in decorative tins. One a single 301 and the other a 303/309 combo. In the new to 300s recycled Paperstone scales with a Boone and Crockett club emblem in scale.

Also a Painted Pony really fancy 301 Jasper scales and fancy worked bolsters.

Will try to pull pictures and get back here to you , my poor Beatles era computer skills slowing the process...300Bucks

Guess I'll be the odd man out here, but I have them both also, but I prefer the 307 over either one. I guess I just like the larger ones.
