Some people may not like this but it is fact. The production plant I work at also has a plant in China. A few years back we got word of some machinery problems over there and were told to produce some items in house , label them " MADE IN CHINA" and ship them out to China. They then immediately put them on a boat and sold them back to us. I know, WTF! But it happened and I saw it more than a few times so I always wonder what the truth is. I'm not saying BUCK would do this or any other company , just that I saw mine do it.

If I read this correctly, you are saying that some of the goods coming out of China (from your company) and marked as made in China were actually made in the USA?

Wouldn't it be great if Buck WAS doing that with all the knives they label as made in China! I don't know why on earth they would, but it would be better than the other way around.

I don't understand all the tariffs and taxes put on goods but the way it was explained to me was: " As a whole , it doesn't matter where our goods are produced and sold just that they sell." A direct quote from a power that be at my plant.

SEMPER-FI TIL I DIE

Like I said, I don't know why they would want to do it, but it would be great in my opinion, if Buck produced ALL their Chinese marked knives here. I don't believe that anyone would complain if they found out their new imported knife was actually made here in the USA instead!

That kind of "deception" I could live with.

Here's the pictures.

I know very little about Bucks (I know... I know, sorry!) but just by glancing the packaging I see on the front is says "MADE IN THE USA" . On the back it says that "Select Level" models are made in the USA or imported. I see that it is a select model (on the front) and also says made in the USA. I am assuming there are other select models that are not made in the USA and say where they are made on the front. If this is the case than it isn't deceiving at all. The back of the packaging is just letting you know about all of the product lines.

I don't know why I didn't check before, duhhh. I just looked at a couple more clampacks that I have and they have the same statement. One is for a Vantage 345 Select and the other is for Bucklite 424. I believe that the statements next to each type (Pro, Avid and Select) were meant to mean that the Pros and Avids are all made here, but that the Selects may be either made here OR imported.

Sorry Wharn, I was posting at the same time as you were. I think the same as you do.

I just scanned through the 2011 catalog and although there are alot of USA made "Selects", they all are shown with the American flag indicating USA made. ALL the imports are desigated as "Selects" and have no flag of course.

To me it clearly says that knife is made in USA, while other knives in the select line could be USA or imported. All will be designed in the US. I don't see any deception or double speak.

i bought buck knives with that packaging and it made sense to me.

no issue with it at all.

some selects aren't made in the us. but if that knife is super cheap you gotta expect it.
