Buck Canoe, anybody using one?

I have a few pics of mine. There are minor cracks in the scales but still really stable.

May be a real sleeper of a knife based on the steel and heat treat.

I think the currently made Chinese ones use 420J, not 420HC.

If Buck made a flat ground canoe with 420HC and made in the US, I'd be on it in a second.

You and me both. I really like the canoe pattern and have a real fondness for its little brother the mini canoe or as CASE calls their offering, the "butterbean".

I was gifted a knife that had 420J blades as seen on the Bucks at my local sporting goods store and the steel was just about unusable. It was really soft, and the edge distorted and damaged easily. I am sure that if anyone could get it to peak performance it would be BUCK, but I have no idea why they would start with such a poor offering in steels to begin with.

Sort of like buying a English Opinel with lousy steel. Nothing against the English. But a traditional Opinel should come from France.

I've got a China made one with wood scales. It's a good knife, but for some reason I can't quite put my finger on, I was slightly under-whelmed with it. I haven't carried it much. Some nice bone scales might have made me more interested.

Here is a pic of one of my 389 Buck Canoe's...This one has seen a bit of use...
These are very reasonably priced, and are a decent build quality for the money...
Buck used 420hc through 2008, and in 2009 started listing the China Bucks as 420J2...
