i had a 110 needs a new blade, so i emailed them asking if they could put a different steel on it other than 420hc i`d cover the additional cost,"No , but you can go to our custom shop etc etc etc" the only option in the custom shop is s30v, not bad ...the problem i have is understanding why a company so noted for its customer service and all the warm and fuzzy they project is uptight about it,its not like you dont have the parts, its not like i want it done for free, i can only see one reason, but i`m open to other views,...i can also see if they did agree to it after my complain about it,it would be at an inflated price so as to discourage this type of thing,...as of this moment,i`ve changed my opinion of buck knives and the customer service

until further notice...=unimpressed

I'm sorry your upset by this policy and believe me, if it was something that made a lot of sense, we would still be offering this service.
Several years back we experimented with this. If a customer sent in their 110 or 560, we would upgrade the blade steel for a price. There were so many issues that came up, that we finally had to scrap the idea. It did not work well and only made customers upset. We have been making the 110 for so many years, and there have been so many variations over the years, we just encountered too many problems. It was a myriad of little things that simply could not be overcome. We would end up sending knives back and forth across the country and to Canada. It was a headache for both us and especially for our customers.
Sorry we cant help you with that but I hope my explanation at least helps a little.

Well, sorry to hear that,Buck makes a fine knife and has some fabulous customer service. They used to offer blade swaps and it was a very reasonable price as i recall, they don't offer it anymore, not sure why but i still have a few bg-42 re-blades on 110 models and such.Ifd your knife originally had the bg-42 ,i'm sure they would replace the broken blade with bg-42 no question,my guess is they were losing money at the re-blade game.

I think the BG42 blades are all gone, so I don't think they could replace a BG42 blade.

But.....then you'd never have to replace a blade of that quality anyhow, right?

:)

its is a model 110...same as in the custom shop...blade in custom shop is s3ov made to fit model 110..insert a into b ..cutomer pays for this=customer satisfed and happy. am i wrong ...fail to see how its any different than for example i had to send in an alaskan guide 110 also s30v,only difference is a price difference, which i was willing to pay

Well, a lot of people don't want S30V.

The replacement problem, I think, depends on the age of the knife. People were probably sending knives too old to fit the newer blades properly and that resulted in returns, questions, complaints, expensive and time-consuming glitches.....that would be my guess.

cop out ..part of the ad campaign is the fact its a classic and we`ve been making em this way for 40 years,

your right maybe some people don`t..i`ve no problem with that, the problem i have is that i do want one, i`m not everybody

i wouldn`t be so girlish about this, save for one reason only, this knife has certain sentimental value to me , i take good care of all my outdoor gear, ive used this knife exclusively ,and have had to sharpen it often as such, time for anew blade,

Do you have a picture of your knife?
Triple R Knives sometimes has upgraded blades for 110's.
You can send him the knife "if " he has blades.

FYI minor tweaks have been made many times throughout the years, read more in here and you will see the staggering number of variations in 110's and all the colorful characters that collect them:)

Yes, there have been over 20 variations just from 1964 to 1986.

Canadian1, it looks like your solution is to have somebody put on a new blade for you.....there are several on the forum that could do that.

They might have some interesting options in steel types, too.

I can see why Buck can't open this up to people sending 110s in for special blades because they'd have people sending knives that were too old to fit and there are a lot of old 110s around that wouldn't work with new blades.

wow!, to a good number of people it probably looks the same, but all the 110 guys i'm sure know differently!

well that hurts even more, because the date stamp indicates its from 1987, the greater than symbol for all the math savy

i`m more of the mind the reason they dont do this anymore (internet plays a big part in this)) is how could we do this and put a price on it, charge to little and they cant justify what the new ones cost, charge too much and face a loyalty exodus, its no secret your not giving your knives away, nor is it a secret that buck is making money, and thats fair,....it is my lucky hunting knife, i used it only for hunting ...exclusively...i do have others, but this one is my ...hunting knife...dosent that mean anything to you ...lol any way it would have been nice ,it aint going to happen i`m over it, not impressed, but i definitley will look into evil eye earl recommended thanks anyway

update no luck with rrr earl...meanwhile at the buck factory, there is a box labeled "buck 110 s30v blades quantity 1,000"

Heck yes.....actually, Buck's got all those nice blades and they should just pick one out, give it to one of their skilled employees, put him on a plane and send him to your house to install it for you.

Bring you along a nice bottle of Champagne and a duck dinner, too.

;)
