I don't know why they have that policy now and not knowing what factors lead up to that decision, I don't like it either. Perhaps if I knew all the reasons I would understand and agree with it. But............ it is what it is so we have to live with it. Other than the factor that you can't get a blade steel type change out, you will be more than happy with their customer service if you give it a try.

Since you seem to have a lot of sentimental vallue attached to the knife, send it in and have a nice new shiny 420HC blade put in it. At least you will have your old knife back and usable again. When you get it back, you will be more than pleased with the result I'm willing to bet. They spiff them up so well, many of the old timers come back looking near new.

Even better......snag a 1986 110 in nice shape off e-Bay and use that blade in your knife.

Then you'll have the correct blade and the correct steel (the excellent 425MOD) and that can be your hunting knife made as close as it can be to original.

You can send the leftover frame/body from e-Bay off to get a new 420HC blade and keep it for a spare or sell it.

:)

They might have some interesting options in steel types, too.

I can see why Buck can't open this up to people sending 110s in for special blades because they'd have people sending knives that were too old to fit and there are a lot of old 110s around that wouldn't work with new blades.

so how do they honor the 4 ever warranty on the older blades.... also seeing as how there are only 2, count em 2 options in the custom shop i dont see the logistical nightmare aspect to it, its simple then ,many tweaks from 1964 to 1986 ,mine is past that ( 1987} as i said before they .. no way....they have spin doctors for this, .......if you lived in canada and had to deal with the crazy inflated prices , compared to what you in the states can get the same product for..you would have tried the same thing i tried,

They do it by replacing the blade with a new blade in 420HC.

They can replace the blades to a certain year. After that they have to replace the knife.

Here's an example. It's a 112 from '72 or '73 that had a broken and re-shaped blade tip. I sent it in and they put a new blade in it and cleaned it up.

i`m not looking to complain ,but in this post someone said they honor blades they cant replace by giving them a new one, how do you know they just didnt give you a new one if i sent mine in ..which now is very unlikely ...i`d insist they just change the bade and skip the spa treatment i like the charm and characteristics the handle has aquired over the years, just me though

The new 110s are much different from the old ones.....besides, you'd recognize your own knife, right?

You give them detailed instructions and they'll skip the polish......but I wouldn't. It will still look like your old knife only better......and patina will come back soon if that's what you want, but it will look nicer.

Do you mean how would you know they wouldn't just give you a complete new knife? If you tell them that you just want a new blade, that's what they will do. Since your's doesn't seem to be a warranty issue since it's just been used up, they aren't apt to offer a new one in any case. You could also just tell them to skip the spa work.

I have a 110 that I know is pre '72 and it's had a new blade from 2009 put in it, so I know one would fit in yours.

If you've made up your mind not to send it in, then perhaps the subject should just be dropped. No sense continuing to beat a dead horse.

mine is past that ( 1987} as i said before they cant do it because they cant put a price on it without jeopardizing themselves said:
I'm no spin doctor...although I could sure use a doctor now! I'm just Joe and I have worked for Buck for 26 years now. And we are just talking about Buck Knives up here in Idaho. Not Buckamalgomated industries international employing 60 thousand workers with a whole staff of marketing personel to handle bla bla bla....nope, just the 200-ish employees we have right here about 100 miles from Canada. I could bring my rework man in here and ask if he thinks the Blade Swap idea was a good one but I wont. Its Friday and I dont want to ruin his weekend. For a myriad of reasons, it was just a bad idea. I'm obviously darned if I do, and darned if I dont.
I understand that the knife has sentimental value, I totally get that as I have certian knives that are extra special to me.

how do they replace it with a 420hc in light of all the aforementioned mods an tweaks from 1964-1986

Here's my guess......they probably have bins of 420HC blades made up that will work on the various vintages of 110s. They probably have kits for some models that need a special part. As I said, after a certain oldest vintage, they run out of options and replace the whole knife.

They're not going to do blade replacements except with the stock and standard 420HC.......no special steels.

It's a complicated process and they simply don't have time to do things by request except their normal options. They have to be set up for it and the procedure has to go bing, bing, bing, smooth......no glitches.

I wish they did real custom work, too......but that ain't the way big modern factories work.

well its moot point ...i am but one person, looking for a little customer service, and i got it,...little customer service...all i wanted was a blade for my hunting knife in s30v ,i know they have them ,i know its not going to happen , buck will continue to do well i`m sure , as will i,next time i hear or see this or that about buck knives, i`ll just add it on to the pile of overflowing hype that abounds in the knife community,i`ll retire the knife, i`ll get a new hunting knife,

Well, let's be fair.

You were looking for customer service that's not available.

And that's what you got.

;)

overflowing hype? Really... Little customer service?

if you want to go it the cheap, I would recommend go into Wally and pay $26 US dollars for a new one(I just did this & got a beauty). Forget the different blade material, the 420 will do anything the others will do in terms of hunting and general purpose knives..... your next one will be yours.... there will be many like it but that one is yours :->
There are some fellers on here that do repairs and replacement stuff and they may have some wonder blades if you really prefer something different. I have four 110's a 112 & two 426's all but one with 420, & one with the older 440 and they all sharpen and get the job done if I do my part. Best luck to you either way.

thanks, but its over, i just fail to see 2 blades that`ll fit and its a problem how, ... blade a or blade b.. no matter what ,your going to have to press out the pivot pin by whatever means you use, there will be one of your workers doing this, 2 blades could be lying side by side take the one the customer wants and reinsert the pin i`m not complicating it,what kind of magic occurs in the cu$tom $hop,I`m gue$$ing it`$ about the $ame, thanks anyway i`ll just get a knew hunting knife, thread closed

by the way its thursday
