Buck fixed blade Fridays

A Buck 620 Reaper and a custom kydex sheath for it. It’s a good knife, although it’s weaker than I originally expected. The blade is warped a small bit, from hard use. It is much weaker than the Buck 119, which I’ve put through way harder use for years longer than I’ve even had the 620, and the 119’s never developed any problems like that.

Overall, I like this knife. I just think they should’ve made it 0.25” thick, instead of 0.15”. Either that, or put a thicker grind on it. They gave it such a high hollow grind, that the blade is very prone to warping towards the edge.

it was made as a budget version of the Hood knife. hence when they were available, the low cost. the Hood thug is much thicker and built stronger.

Makes sense, as they look so similar. Perhaps I’ll try out the Hood Thug someday.
they keep going up in price, ya shouldnt wait too long or price will be even higher....

its 5160 so also a very tough steel and thicker stock. I dont remember all the versions, but seem to remember a hollow ground and a flat or saber type ground version. dont remember why the change or which came first. maybe Makael Makael remembers the details. hes had all of them at one time or another......

1st year of the Thug was hollow grind. After Ron Hood wanted full flat across the 3 models. Finding a hollow grind can be tough. Alot of pictures you see show the hollow but more than likely you would receive a flat grind.
I prefer the flat grind. Great line of knives

I loved watching Ron hood teach me about survival. He used his busse to chop and cook that rabbit. I think it was a fmb that he helped with?
I had his whole survival series on computer but can’t get them to play now, so sad. I want to find them again…..
