Buck fixed blade Fridays

Akonua vs Kalinga? Never understood the difference other than size? Main reason they dropped the Akonua?
And i just went and looked and the Kalinga is discontinued? Where have i been?

kinda but the angles of the blade sweep and such are different. the akonua is a much better user to me...and fits in its sheath better too.

both are beautiful designs.....

Thanks. I googled and found some info on this forum on the Kalinga vs Akonua and i had actually posted on the 5 year old thread. About the same time i joined BladeForums.

Old picture from last October but felt like posting since I haven’t in a while over here.

Planning on a trip to Shawnee national forest for a couple of days next Thursday and Friday. Might have some new photos then. Never been there before. I just have to decide what knives to take. 224497DA-7FF5-4CE6-AC1B-0DD60FDB90FC.jpeg

I am still interested in information on this sculpted 124. Even if you tell me they were a regular offering and I havent looked hard enough. :D
I already tried to contact the previous owner on the BCCI site, but I think hes on an island somewhere sipping drinks with the 300% proffit he made on auctioning 500+ knives:D
:D:D

I've never seen nor heard of pronounced/exaggerated finger grooves being offered on a factory Frontiersman. I believe the alteration to be a private endeavor performed after the knife left Buck.

B BennyBlade I am interested to know how those grooves feel in the hand.

Nice trio of 124s btw, Congrats.

definitley a different feel, but I wouldnt say better or worse, or more or less comfortable... Its is in really nice shape, but came with no box, sheath or pw... looks like it was carried around a bit and possibly used... the sculting is super smooth and even...

The grooves do appear to be well done whomever crafted them.

I checked the 122/124 timeline article available on the BCCI website written by Houser. The red micarta and lanyard hole denote the knife as being offered in 1973. No mention of finger grooves.

"Tight grain black or red micarta, blocky or squared handle shape."
