Buck Kephart?

I have a few thoughts…
1) maybe the current popularity of the Kephart style knife isn’t going to be around much longer
2) perhaps we are too obsessed with faithful reproductions of Kephart’s knife- albeit a great, classic, simple design.
3) I kind of think Buck is smart to do their own thing- I honestly marvel that the market isn’t saturated with Kepharts yet.

Well I guess I'm one of a few. I have loved the classic design of the Kephart for years. I'm not a flashy kind of person and I like things that work like the Kephart does for me.
Buck currently offers a lot of beautiful knives and I'd be proud to own any of them.

I'd hate to see you alter a Buck 103. I had no idea what a 103 looked like and had to research it. Beautiful knife.

I understand your desire, I just feel like Buck making a kephart would get lost in the noise and be something not distinctly Buck.

It'd be fun.
I always liked the idea of a drop point 103.
Someone here made a drop point 119 that was a very cool looking knife.
If you want it, I guess you gotta make it.

I agree about the making part......
I'm ordering some steel soon, and have been dreaming of D2 Kepharts. :D

I'll get blasted for saying this, but I wouldn't say no to a Buck 110 Kephart. Just the blade. I have the standard clip point and a drop point. I think a flat grind spear point like a Kephart would be cool. A limited run maybe. No nail nick.

Could offer the Compadre Camp knife in a spear point ( kephart) blade. For instance Boker has their Klashnekoff auto knife with blade options of spear, clip, drop, tanto, reverse tanto and probably more. I love my 112 & 110 drop point. Glad Buck did that.

The 103 has a definite "Nessmuk" thing going with the blade shape. I may have spelled the name wrong.

Buck did a Nessmuk collaboration with Thompon Center years ago. I had one, sold it to another member here IIRC. Think they only made 150 of them or so. Nice knife and I think they could make some $$ on a knife like that.
Here's my Buck/TC #15 Nessmuk,(it's not your previously owned one, mine's from an owner in Canada). A reissue would be nice.

would the bk62 be a good starting point for a first Kephart? I'd be all in for a Buck in 5160, just don't see them making one in the Tobiassen era

It is a great start to a Kephart. Ethan did the original justice. It's my 2nd or 3rd fave, behind a CPK Kephart and in very close proximity to a LT Wright bushcrafter MKII. The LT handle is not really a Kephart handle so I like to call them "Kephart inspired" since it has the Kephart blade shape.

There's a Kephart picture thread on here somewhere, started by Uncle T. It's been a little silent lately but many pages of good stuff in there.
