Buck Kephart?

Thanks BE. Here you go SA, better put on a fresh pot of coffee, there's only 58 pages. :)

would the bk62 be a good starting point for a first Kephart? I'd be all in for a Buck in 5160, just don't see them making one in the Tobiassen era
id say quality for lower dollar its the best example to start with put there.

there is also a kinda version Old Hickory makes called bird and small game or something like that. it's a bit over an inch shorter and has a metal lower guard...but its very low dollars.....

on higher dollar stuff the Carothers I feel is the best..in delta 3v or aebl stainless. havent owned them all myself, but Carothers does things right. can get walnut for an upgrade cost or micarta for no extra cost. lately he's been selling kepharts on Friday around 3pm in the makers for sale fixed blade section...most Fridays anyways.....

Thanks for the suggestions. I’d drop the coin on CPK if they weren’t so competitive to get (at least that’s how I remember their sales)

so I ordered the BK62 and put a want ad on the CPK board for a kephart for what that's worth.

obligatory Bucks

I like my BK62, however I wonder if Buck could fine tune the design? The handle blade ratio feels a bit awkward to me, the handle should be a little longer with the 5 inch blade. Better yet make the blade and handle about equal, 4.5 inches each.

I like the bk62 as is. longer handle doesn't make sense to me, but I dont have large paws like DeSotoSky DeSotoSky

if ya got hands like his I get your want.

I like the 5" blade. good overall size. shortening it also doesn't appeal to me....

only thing I'd kinda like would be a bit more finger guard, but it would be a different knife and not a kephart.....

I understand your thoughts,to me I do not think making the blade 4.5 inches long takes anything way from the utility you would get from the 5 inches, while at the same time improving balance. Just my two cents.

I feel like the "standard" for a 5" bladed bushcraft/woods knife is a 5" handle. Seems like I used to see many of them when I was out shopping more often.
