For better or worse I store my knives in Plano plastic hinged cover lure boxes.
They stack well in my narrow area of storage and you can see what you are handling.

I ventured to a national sporting goods store that has a big A on its sign. While looking for a particular kind of .50 cal blackpowder bullet my gun was sited in with I discovered something new.

If anyone uses the same sort of storage they have put out a new thinner model with more slots, but in the same width and length. But thinner. It also has five rows instead of four. It is a Plano model 3701, has 5 - 34 on outside sticker.

Here is photo of old box, I believe it is a model 3708, as you can see it is 2 inches thick and has four rows of three spaces. I have a few 112s and I think they would do better here.

This is a Photo of the new thinner box which is 1 1/4 inch thick, same width and length but now with five rows of three spaces. The difference is 15 useable slots to the old ones 12. Most of the 300s would do better here.

This is photo of open box with all the slots visible, there are 30 knives stored in a size thinner than before. Dividers come with box so you can customize to your knives. Why am I concerned and wasting your time with this thread ? You get a few stacked up and they take up some space. I am MARRIED, nuff said ?

Lots of ways to keep knives this is just my way, FYI for you if you are interested.

Don't think they will hold a 120 or 124 but I figure if you have them you had to build a house around the group.....
300Bucks :D

P.S. They have 340 Vantages for 19.99

That's the storage system I've used for years, they're great. I like using bubble wrap or thin styro-wrap around the knives, secured w/ a rubber band, to keep the knives shielded; and sometimes just paper towels.

A C A D E M Y Sports.

You may be like me and only go to the big city ( some place with a full time fire department and not volunteers) once in a while. But if you don't have one near let me know. Then when I eventually get back there I will check. But you might grow a beard before that happens for sure. I will check at Wally.

Scott and jb and all,

I was cutting shelf liner that was connected dots of foam as liners (wrote old,old thread on this), but they were leaving a slight tale-tail bleed marks on the scales. Most old 300s are not Mint so only a few I in wrap high cotton content typing paper and rubber band and write on it what it is wrapped around. Sometimes I just cut a piece of index card to go in slot telling whats there. Then put labels on the closed lid saying what that tray holds. So far I can count everything on my fingers and toes, if I go higher I will have to start some accounting system to keep track of what to look for.

Have a good (fishing) buddy who is insurance man, he says, anyone with more than ten good knives ought to do a photo record of each knife with the written details. and keep it in two places one of them fire safe and not a computer Or you may end up in insurance armwrestle. Like most of us, I need to work on this.....

FYI

Most Insurance Companies will not cover you collectable's unless you have a separate policy for them. Those policies are $$$$. However, you should have a photo record of your whole house and it's contents; just like Craig said!

300, A good idea. I'd have to go 300 miles to find an Academy store. Maybe I can find something like that in a El Paso, TX store. DM

i checked with my insurance company (state farm) if i needed a rider
i was told that my knives would be included under contents.
they told me i needed to record data for the whole collection..
(and they really liked pictures but picts were not necessary)
that i did not need a rider..
that i should have them locked to prevent 'walk a ways'
that my display cases with locks would due ..

now if one knife had a value of over 5,000$ i should have picts..
or when the whole collection had a value of over 50,000$
that i should check with them again
the old home owners needed a rider on any 'class' of small things over 1,000$
if any one has S.Farm and they are told diff .. LET ME KNOW!

I have few Plano plastic lure boxes that I use too... And anything else I can put a buck knife in.... :D

I noticed you had more than 1 in a few of the slots....I would think that they would bang around well, maybe kiss a little.

I hate you guys that are so neat and organized. My 40 or so dots and no dots 110/112's are over there in the floor in a box that is barely holding all of them.

At least ya never hear of a neat pack rat...:D

Being the biologist of the clan, I am sorry to tell you Packy that real live Pack Rats, or Eastern Woodrat, (Neotoma floridana), are very clean animals. There piles of sticks homes out in the boondocks have diferent chambers for different functions. Sleeping, food storage, crapper, etc. Your Tejas variety likes to use prickly pear parts on their houses for increased protection. If I was with survivorman on a show I would show him how clean and even tasty they are roasted over an open fire.......

What to you guys do with your knives that you worry about scratching them in a storage box. The only time my boxes have movement is in taking out, opening and closing.
The few NIBs I have are stored that way but if they are NNIB (not new in box) I just keep them in storage container and put whatever box they are found in somewhere else. I don't hike with them and I don't get them out every night and roll naked on them, I only have a couple of fancy knives and they get there own slot........If you get more than a dozen you start thinking how to keep them compact, at least you do if you were living with the female I live with........ever notice how when first married you have lots of man stuff around and then 20 years later your confined to a small space and everyonce in a while they come in mumble under their breath, look around and leave, and then sweat beads on your brow.......Heres part of a photo of some of mine, Bucksway notice the 112s, there is a 110 in there also. The slots are adjustable.......Like I said in the beginning. Its just my method, and if anyone else is using it or interested, Plano has trimmed the size down to be more knife friendly and improve numbers of knives per square inch........

Hi 300,

I'll have to rustle up a few rats and have you over for a BBQ, we could film it for one of the food network shows:D....my mouth is watering at the thought;)

Well you don't live out here in earthquake country...them little knives would be doing more that just kissing each other:eek:. Just kidding and poking fun at you brother.

You see I also have a plastic storage thingee:thumbup:
