I feel this thread touches on a large issue in modern life, and that's responsibility. The reason everything has to have labels and strict protocol, is because nobody is responsible for their own actions anymore. Hand gets caught in a woodchipper? Should be, 'that sucks, guess you shouldn't have done that', nowadays it's 'there was no label, it wasn't my fault I wasn't warned!'
At some point due diligence, and accountability left our everyday life, and I liken this to that. Had the op simply contacted them regarding replacement, there would be zero issues. Sure, buck could've called and asked, but I assume they have a set response for this type of thing, if X discontinued knife comes in, Y knife goes out barring further communication.
As far as shipping, I'm sure asking for a label would have been well within the realm of bucks warranty.
Yeah, it sucks it didn't go the way the op wanted it to. But if one is going to the trouble anyway, may as well make sure what you want to happen, does.
