Hey guys,

Was just browsing the local flyers that came today and noticed that Canadian Tire has a Buck Lite at 65% off for $9.99 CDN (reg. $29.99). Never had a Buck Lite before and for that price I figure i'll pick 1-2 up. The add doesnt say which model but you can clealry see the blade stamp in the picture and its a 424. Took a quick look on Buck's site and didn't see this specific model? I see they are labled as small/medium/large. Which is the 424?

Thanks!

Which is the 424?QUOTE]

The Bucklite 424 is long out of production. It is a plastic-handled, sub 7" OA, lockback. They can only be found in the hands of collectors and, if you are lucky, at the popular auction site.

ITE is collector of vintage Bucklites.

Buy them all. No. Wait. It must be a mistake.

The model 424 that Canadian Tire is selling is the second generation 424. The first generation was a two piece handle riveted together; the second generation is a one piect handle meaning that both sides and the spring holder in the back were molded as one piece. These were discontinued around early/mid '90's (off the top of my pointy head). They were a great product and largely bullet proof. The model 424 uses the blade, rocker (locking bar), etc of the model 501 Squire.
There were three other sizes, the 422 which was the model 112 size (and the most popular), the 426 which was the model 110 size and the 425 mini Buck which is the model 505 size (we have resumed production of this one).
Canadian Tire wanted to offer something that was a great value and the 424 fit the requirement. "Officially" the model has been discontinued, but in the right circumstances, we have built and sold them.

Bill Keys - I really do appreciate the reply! You did mention the other models and how they were simliar to the 112 and 110 but where does the 424 fall in?

I need one.

Are the Canadian Tire Bucklite 424s available online to folk in the lower 48? THX

Update: No. You cannot purchase the Buck 424 thru Canadian Tire online. Canadian Tire ended their online sales January 2009. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canadian_Tire However, the popular auction site has em now.

ITE, if that doesn't work put in "Canadian Tire Bucklite" in your favorite search site.

Just picked up a couple of these - who can resist a $10 US made knife with Buck's warranty? I was actually looking for a beater type sheeple knife and this seems to fit the bill.

There isn't a thumb nick on the blade, although the ad and the packaging itself shows one. No problems grabbing the blade though.

I was surprised to find such a cheap knife shaved hair out of the package. The edge did have a 'bald spot' near the belly, but only took a couple minutes on the stone and strop and it was razor sharp. It was a refreshing change as all I've been using for the last few years is hard steels like S30V, D2, etc.

It'll now be a part of my EDC and I'm looking forward to see how well it holds up.

Just picked up a couple of these -

Congratulations. They look like terrific knives. And a bargain price doesn't hurt.

I've beat the online bushes without finding these for sale.

You must have walked into a Canadian Tire store and made your purchase in person.

Yeah, there's one across the road from me, lol.

Originally they were supposed to be only available for $10 with a coupon after buying gas, but when I went in the store they just had them for $10 without restriction.
