Buck maker issues?

Sorry I didn't get back to you guys. I had a busy day. It said CHINA right on the tang. I understand the sheath is CHINA made, because I own one. I really doubt Dicks sells counterfits....It just doesn't add up.

A picture would be worth a thousand words.

Please post a picture of the knife.

Yep, seeing is believing.

You sure it says BUCK and its not one of those Winchester Sorta Kinda Buck 110 Looking knives? If it says Buck,Dicks has some explainin' to do.

For sure. If there is proof of this, then Buck needs to be notified ASAP. There's not much that can be done when they appear outside the USA, but when (Or if as I'm not yet convinced.) they have made it as far as an authorized Buck dealer, it's something that can and will be dealt with by Bucks Legal department.

That's right. The website lists country of origin as China. Really interested in how this one turns out.

I can pretty much promise you won't get gigged for posting a link for this purpose. Go ahead and put it up.

I just sent a link to Bill Keys at Buck to that 110 page on Dick's site. Lets wait until we hear back from him before we get too excited.

To quote Bill:

"All of them are reputable and if we were to become aware that they were selling counterfeit Buck products, we would drop them and take action immediately."

Guys, went back to Dicks, I couldn't take a picture because the camera died, so I did some looking. I looked at all of the boxes, and the rest were USA, but the one said China. I don't want to stir any trouble. Maybe a mistake?

Not to defend Dick's, but, they also list the Vantage country of origin as China. The image clearly has "USA" on the blade and the first review also confirms this.

The pic of the 110 could be a reversed image of a 110.

I'd like to see a pic of 41xx's 110 as well before making any judgment. I don't think he is lying. It's just that I've seen some real hokey stuff at Dick's. It wouldn't surprise me a bit if someone bought a knock-off, bought a real Buck from Dicks and returned the Chinese knock-off in the Buck box to Dicks for a refund.

Most of the folks at Dicks don't strike me as the type that would catch something like that. I bought a Coleman fire pit there and they didn't have them in the computer. The manager didn't even know they sold them. He was more interested in selling golf clubs. He darn near gave the fire pit to me for making me wait.

This gets curiouser and curiouser. I agree with my fellow pirate Rupe, though - those guys are incompetent beyond the limits of human comprehension.

You know what, that is very well possible. I have heard a few people buy bad video game disks off of Ebay and renting the same game from Blockbuster, puting the bad one in, and keeping the Blockbuster copy whilst Blockbuster has to replace the game. Also, I have returned the Vantage Select before because of blade centering, and the person behind the counter had said they repackage them, so going along with your idea, the guy bought a fake 110, bought a real one, switched them, and retured it and got a free knife.

Yep. That still doesn't explain why the website says "Made in China," though.

No kidding. I asked the guy if they had 550 cord or if they knew a store that did, and comes back to me with camo duct tape.

Yep. That sounds about dumb enough to be Dicks.

In another Dick's related story, my wife bought me a diamond Lansky kit there. The stones were mis-marked. The fine stone was coarser than the medium. I took it back for an exchange and told the guy it was mis-marked. He never even looked at it. Just gave me a new one which I checked before leaving the store.

Take that one back. They'll probably replace it without even looking at it.

The sad part is, it'll end up back on the shelf for the next unsuspecting buyer.

Guys, I think the mystery of the lone Chinese Buck 110 is solved. But as to why it says China on their website, I have not a clue.......

If you will post a picture of the knife, I'm sure someone will be able to tell what it really is.

As far as Dick's site saying they are made in China, they have the same "typo" in the description if every Buck they sell.

The "China" on their website probably has a simple explanation. The person that put the page together changed the image, product name and price and what little description there is on an existing page. A mundane copy-and-paste job.

After adding a bunch of items made in China, the person that added the Buck items got complacent and figured it was just another Chinese "sporting good".

Add the item. Move on to the next one.

Probably a simple mistake or oversight made by the websites low dollar data entry crew.

You can bet, the same people that maintain that site probably maintain sites for stores that sell curtains, marital aids, kids clothes and auto parts. They aren't knife nuts by any means.

Hmmm.... the most recent review of the linked knife.

"classic style. looks like a good old fashion american knive. heavy, but that ussualy means something is solid so its good quality. i like fancy blades just as much as the next guy,but every once in a while theres a good old styled knife that catches my eye. and this one did. not made in the U.S.A. unlike most buck knives but it is still a good one. i dont know, something about it just feels right. i would definetly recommend."

Still, could just be their web guys not placing the correct reviews with specific models.

Something's rotten in the state of Denmark. Now that they've been put on notice, I'm sure the guys at Buck will get it straightened-out.
