Buck Making a New Buckmaster?

IMHO, it needs to be said, the new 'Buckmaster' bears little resemblance to the 80s-90s Buckmaster. Blade and handle shape are markedly different, it does have sawteeth and serrations, but different;). It looks to be so much more functional and usable. Preston

Great, now I'm wondering what else they are working on for 2020. That's okay, I'll probably get distracted by what they were working on last year for next year. :D

I will be into a new Buckmaster. I hope it does fall more on the functional side too.

the new buckmaster is not like the old one tho there is some carryover of style/looks
it is not a camping knife !!!! it is a big heavy survival/fighting knife..
it will have two parts that lock together or come apart as needed
it is a knife to carry were you don't want to carry more then one large knife
having looked at it I am pleased that the commander who designed it knew what USN Seals needed.
it would not have much use in the civilian world ... and there are camping knives that would work better..
but if I had to go into a location were I might have to fight my way our I would want this knife!

I think part of the draw for the Buckmaster is that it’s a genuine issue combat knife. That goes a long way to legitimize the design. Even though there are far better survival and outdoor knives on the market, having the “good enough for Uncle Sam...” label is a big deal.

If this new one isn’t a DOD contract, it’s just a novelty so I’ll be passing. It’s like Dodge and the new Charger. It’s not really a Charger now is it...

Of course, I’ve not seen it yet either. If it comes with a solid survival steel (carbon), and it’s a multi-purpose, lightweight design, I might change my mind.

I’m back I haven’t posted here forever. Please tune in to “Talking Lead” hosted by “Lefty” in about 3 weeks or so at SHOT Show 2020. BUCK is releasing some amazing products that everyone in this post will love ! MORE to Come.

Buck needs to release a major fixed bladed knife. But, as much as I like the original Buckmaster, it’s appeal is mostly as a period piece. Let’s face it, from a practical perspective, the knife was heavy, the round handle was less than ideal, the sawback was a joke, the anchors were odd and mostly useless, the hollow handle was detrimental and anything but ergonomic, and the compass and sheath were good and innovative at the time, but 35 years on they have both passed their best use by dates.

They can do a limited release of the original knife, or come up with something entirely new. A sort of Buckmaster Bowie/Camp knife, with a high grade premium steel blade, solid construction, and a modern modular sheath system. Perhaps even an official survival/rescue tool for our new Space Force. I would suggest that they target the market at the $400-500+ range. Something good enough to go head to head with other premium production knife makers like Busse and Randall.

Let’s just say IF Buck did release a new modern UPDATED BuckMaster with input and testing by over 100 years of combine US Navy SEAL combat diving experience behind it. It would be a SUPERIOR design one would think? Possibly all the weakness and downfalls of the original 30 plus year design Eliminated? The weak tip? The saw teeth that didn’t work well especially an Ocean environment? Possibly a fantastic design and a fantastic cost ? Who knows? But rest assured if would a a YUGE barn stormer one would surmise! BUCK sold over 100,000 in the 80’s/90’s . NO internet! Imagine now ??

Maybe a Seriously Fantastic SEAL Commander who trained over 70 % of current SEAL brass might of designed a knife that is superior to any dive knife EVER made. Just saying! Maybe !

Also the anchors to you of might been useless but to US Navy SEALs it was a tool. It was literally used as an anchor for a SDV to keep it in place while the SEALs are doing buisness on land. Also many folks no you I guess got very creative with them no worries to each his own

Here’s a quote BUCK knives is going to start using. Pretty cool. “In my opinion Buck Knives makes some of the best knives in the World” Commander DT Coulter “SEAL” retired! The Commander stated this on a phone call during my M9 Bayonet lecture time BCCI members at the 30th Anniversary in Post Falls a few years ago.
