Buck Marksman - what does everyone think?

I'm going to try and get my hands on one of these today. I sure hope I like it because, man oh man I need a new Buck.

Try not to be a condescending know it all. Are you a mod? Didn't see it on your profile, so otherwise let folks post what they want to know about and stop taking it upon yourself to police the forum.
Sorry your having a bad day......

I like the Hawk designed knives and may look for this one in the classifieds here. The locks are a part of the process, suggesting it be a liner lock or frame lock is missing the point regarding Hawk designed knives.

It is 2 handed closing for me. That is my only problem with this knife. It flips great and locks up tight, almost too tight.
I'm curious about one hand manipulation opening and closing. Maybe I'm just looking at it wrong but it looks like closing requires two hands.

Does anyone know if they are going to change to a different blade finish than the current bead-blasted?

I bought one and that is my only complaint.

If i must address a slight caveat it would be the pocket clip.
I found it difficult for me to unclip it from my pocket. Tried it with ZT03500 and it worked well.

First post ever on this site but I felt compelled to do so. I've been eyeing this knife for a few years and finally pulled the trigger about two months ago. I can't get it out of my pocket!!! Sure the hardware is a little soft (hasn't been an issue for me yet but I know Buck will rectify if it happens), the thumb hole is typical Vantage "rough punch", and it may look different, but it's a fantastic all-around blade. I had the same issue with the flipper bouncing back from the strap lock but found that your typical light switch deployment better at resolving this than a push button method. When I received the knife it wasn't perfectly centered (odd in a ball bearing pivot as I find them to have a centering effect) so I took it apart and did my normal new knife maintenance of polishing all parts, applying lube, and reassembling. I was pleasantly surprised to find steel washers between the bearing race and the aluminum scales! Buck recognized and prevented the potential issue of hard bearings scoring a groove in the handle scales before it could ever happen in the user's hands. Way to go Buck! Wish some of my other ball bearing pivot knives had that. I've used this for edc mostly. Heavy cardboard cutting, outdoor carpet, and cutting thick golf range mats. Did some small kindling work last weekend and a little food prep. Great ergos especially for big hands (I wear an xl glove). The cutout on the lockbar (where the flipper slides through) is a little rough so I might touch it up with my Dremel tool. For those who have trouble with the lock, I recommend a little practice. I find it faster and more intuitive than any of my Paramilitary 2, Manix 2, or Axis lock knives (still love all of those as well). I think this is a great platform for Buck to stay competitive. As a collector and user I would gladly pay for ultra premium versions of this. Maybe titanium scales (keep the hardened washers!!!), and flat grind S110v as a more slicer oriented model. Or 3v if toughness is required. The 154cm version as an "all-arounder" is great. Hope this convinces a few of you to try it out. Thx for all the great info!

Had one, sold it. It has a nice flipping action, but the lock is just awful...it is prone to slipping and often needs to be tightened, can range from very easy to very hard to disengage, has useless jimping on the sides of it and is extremely awkward to unlock one handed.

Also, the anodizing on mine started to come off very quickly (like 2 months) after nothing more than basic use. I ended up selling it for a lot less than I paid due to the rapidly deteriorating condition of it...definitely not worth the price.

Frame or liner lock would have made this one much better. As it is it's neat as a concept piece not as much for using IMO.

It would sit right alongside the other 400,000 frame locks. I am glad that they are thinking of something different.

On the one I had, if you didn't flip the blade open with enough force it would come bouncing back at you at a very high rate of speed. It was extremely dangerous. However, I have not seen anyone else have this complaint. Anyone with a Marksman, let me know if you've experienced the same thing!

It can happen, especially as the blade has zero resistance, but the way I open it I keep my fingers out of the way if it were to close. Also, I've found with use, over time it wears in to tolerances that make it lock on average more often than out of the box. I also close two handed to make sure I'm not cut.

I love the marksman, and wish they would start adding new models in different color and steel combos.

My first impression of this knife was not good,
however once I spent some time using it I was glad that I
bought it.
I think it takes a little time to get consistent with the one handed
closing, but once you've got ,it works every time
It's a good size for me in the bush, but in town I prefer
a smaller knife.

The knife rocks, flips like magic Open and shuts with one hand in less than second. Flip with forefinger open. Thumb and middle finger on each side of lock, push on blade with forefinger and blade works like greased lightening. There is nothing faster. Love it. My boys love theirs. No blade play.

Why? What didn't you like about it?

There was a slight redesign in the lock because it would lend itself to suboptimal resistance to opening. The action is buttery smooth, but it is kind of like a flipper with a weak detent, sometimes it doesn't lockup well. The pivot screw is also... Odd. Mine is something between a T15 and T20, and as such I can't find a driver for an off size. Lastly the first gen was given a bead blast finish, which how they did it is a rust magnet.
