Buck Neck Knive

Last Friday my new Buck neck knive arrived for AG Russell. I really liked the design and the sheath. I bought a chain for it and put it around my neck. Went camping and used it several time for misc. cutting. I got home today and to my suprprise it was gone. I have no idea how it came out of the sheath or where it went. I had a shirt on-tucked in my jeans with the chain inside the shirt. What a bummer.

I have done it myself . Used the knife and stuck it into a stump while I adjusted something . We all have . Sounds like a usin' knife, buy another .

Very interesting....if it came out inside your shirt, you are lucky you didn't get cut,,,,,,somewhere.,,,on its way South.  I don't neck wear mine for fear of that scenario.

Was the sheath loose , do you remember.? Mine is a little wobbly in the sheath, but sheath seems tight as you draw it out..

SR...
I am guessing that since you bought a chain, that it was the Hartshook?
The Kaala comes with a chain. And, the knife/sheath system seems pretty stable...with no comments on this forum indicating otherwise.

The Hartshook complaint I've read about here are regarding the sheath. Seems to me...that Buck should send you a replacement since it is a known defect...but that's just my opinion. The gizmo is sold as a "system" being comprised of a sheath and knife. I know sheaths can't be warranted for life time due to wear and tear...but this is diff. The sheath in this system seems poorly designed.

Still have my Mircale Whip Kaala with not a single friendly fire ("accidental deployment").

If it is a Hartsook then definitely complain; they have had enough time to fix the issue with the sheath. The stock sheath is really a let down. I got a custom kydex replacement made for mine.

There is currently a new sheath in the works to replace the the one in use now. The new one will have the same concept as the kaala with the button release.

Thanks to everyone who answered. Yes, it was the Hartsook knive. I was alittle concerned with the sheath, but figured since the blade itself only weights 1.2 oz that it would hold. Who would I complain to, Buck or AG Russell?

I've known guys to wrap a rubber band around the sheath to tighten it up. Not right to have to do that with something new out of the box. However, it's better than gutting yourself!

mine is hanging from my mirror in my car. i had it fall out a couple times and put a rubber band around it, it seems much better now

Joe,

The only reason we offered these was that they were from Buck, step up here and replace the knife and then remake the sheath so that it works.

It seems that Buck has been asked to improve the Hartsook sheath plenty of times...
by not improving it, Buck has effectively said "No" so far.

I'm with A.G. on this one.

P.S. I have a Kaala and I like it alot.
It's a backup carry in my shoulder bag, but I wouldn't hesitate to use it as a necker.

Dave,
AG is running a very reputable business. He should expect Buck to offer him quality products and stand by what they sell him. He has every right to demand; he is the customer. I got a Hartsook before it was offered on the market and even the salespeople at Outdoor Retailer admitted the sheath need to be reworked; this was August 2006. Buck has had plenty of time to fix this.

AG, how many complaints have you gotten about the sheath? I bet it was a lot. I replaced my sheath with a custom kydex one the week I bought the knife.

Been away for a few days, it's nice to see a few more comments on this issue. It will be interesting to see if I hear anything from Buck on this issue. Thanks for the response. Nice to hear from AG as well.

not that i mean to make you mad but i do take issue with your statement logic.
i read this forum every day and i do not recall any postings on this were any one from buck said to bad to sad we cant fix it
the one post said they are working on it ...
that should be enught to inducate they said yes not no...
so are you bashing also or can you under stand what was said?

AG is demanding some thing not asking...
i my self dont respond as well to demands as i do to a request

good choice and good taste! my bro loves that necker

every thing is a mater of opion and every one has glass windows i shall not address AG's business in this forum.
send me your email and i will explain

He did and offeres more then one unless i am wrong he is able to proffit reselling them and no dought holds up the forever warrenty in his sales of Buck Knives ... that or he would not be in busness
again i have not seen him explaining any thing referanceing that buck has not addressed the issue with him.

he is a resaler ... he buys and resells and is not the end customer. he has not said if he has replaced any knives from being lost or if he only refers them to Joe at Buck
IMHO if he has replaced the knives and not been rembersed from Buck than may be he could be juistfied to me for his demand ...
my issue is not weather he is justified or not only that he is not being profesional or polite in Buck's Forum that They Pay FOR here...
should i come to your street and complain of you to all your friends?
if so were do you live ? (jest jokeing but do you see my point?)

what are you doing here trying to start a flame war?
are you asking AG to state here how many complants there are?
were are your maners? your statement is inflametory and not called for
i chalange you to be the gentalman your mother should have rased you to be

and if you have trouble with my spelling some one here will no dought lend you a decoder ring if you cant figure it out... and if you can why bother to bring it up ... next?

hi SR...
sanka decaff dave here...
keep in touch with me ok ?
send me your addy email and street addy also ..
or do you want to jest deal with Joe?

As I stated earlier the problem with the sheath is currently in the prototype phase and will be ready soon. So we have not been blind to the problem, and it will be resolved soon.

Why doesn't Buck just sell the knife with a kydex sheath? I was seriously thinking about Hartshook, but decided against it due to the sheath. Went with a Dogfish instead because it came with a kydex sheath. Yes the Hartshook is made with better material, but sheath is just as important with a neck knife.
