Buck or Spyderco?

If you aren't a fan of the Spyderco look, do check out the Native. I am not a big fan of some of the Spyderco styles, but I bought a Native. :D

For what it's worth, I have had a 889 that's been used on some very hard work duties and it performed extremely well. Currently I'm looking for 110 though.

I don't have any doubts about it's performance within it's scope. I think maybe I just don't agree with the pricepoint.

The Buck/Strider will be able to handle more abuse. The Endura will a better slicer and keep an edge longer

Get the 110, I abused the heck out of mine and it was like a cockroach, survived everything. I even used it to chip some ice around a latch with no damage to the tip whatsoever. Sadly, it got lost a while ago. :( It was my ultimate woods folder. Luckily, Im getting another one in the mail soon.:D

Considering it's from the same manufacturer I doubt there's much difference in pricepoint considering the steel and performance. I do like the 110 design just I like the 889 design.

I WILL get the 110. Just the steel I'll be gettin is up to debate.

Kind of depends on what you want IMO.
I love my Native III in VG10. I find it comfortable in hand and pocket. The VG10 takes an excellent edge and holds it a long time. It's really well ballanced. The clip is excellent. And I don't think this Spyderco looks funny, though YMMV on that.

The regular Native is in S30V. Slightly different blade shape and handle too. (I like the shapes of the III better. YMMV)

Either VG10 or S30V will hold an edge better than the Buck 420HC.

The Native is at least as tough as the Buck,

The Endura will outslice any of them.

Go with the Spyderco.

+1 on the Spyderco.

Solid knives and they have a good company warranty. Havent had one break on me and I've put them through a lot. Native is good but I'd recommend an endura- waved if you like to have your knife out in a hurry.

What ever feels better in your hand. Both companies offer a fantastic product for the dollar. Buck has the classic look and feel with multiple decades of experience and Spyderco offers top notch research and development with new steels and constant refinement of current and new models. It's a win-win situation.

420HC has edge retention close to 440C? But is corrosion resistant?

420HC is not even close to 440C. Excellent heat-tread by Bos or not, it's still at 440A comparable steel. Better heat treat will give it better edge holding, but there's no reason to perpetuate myths no matter how much someone likes a company or particular steel.

420-440C through ATS-34 and 154CM are known for excellent corrosion resistance, and progressively better edge-holding.

the endura is not really even a comparison. It far out classes the buck in performance and strength. The new tips on the 4th generation enduras are much more resistant to breakage than previous versions. Try the ZDP 189 Endura and you really will be doing right for yourself.
