I've dealt with DLT before and have no doubt about their customer service. They exchanged the first with out a problem at all.
SKBlades, I've never bought from before but from what I've heard their reputation is as good or better than any dealer.
In fact I was overjoyed to find these two dealers carrying exclusives in S35VN and 154CM.
I was just surprised that Buck put out what I thought would be a premium model, only to find out that what I got was less than ideal. Maybe I just got very unlucky with my samples that is why I said I'm glad everyone was having a better experience than me. Still when you finally try a Buck after so many years the experience did not inspire confidence in future purchases.
Please be aware that the Goodfella is CPM-154 - not 154CM. As I understand it, CPM-154 has finer carbide particles which means it is tougher with better edge retention. I'm pretty sure someone might come along with more to add about the differences. Just wanted to be sure you were aware that the Goodfella is CPM-154.It's starting to sound like I just had bad luck, I always remembered Buck as a better knife.
I still have my old 303 flat grind 2 and 3 spring, a 301 2 and 3 spring flat grind and my old 503 and 501.
I would like a goodfella, I just have to talk myself into it.

For what it's worth, I understand your reluctance to be bitten twice by the same dog. Sadly, bad experiences seem to happen more nowadays than they used to. But, there are horror stories involving all companies. At least my Goodfella is backed by the Buck Forever Warranty, if I should ever need it.
All I can say is that my Goodfella has zero blade play or gaps, stays sharp and I find it in my pocket alot.

that's disappointing. I'd expected dlt wouldnt have it sent that to ya like that, but good labor is hard to find anymore. Buck should do ya right, frustrating but sure in the end all will be made right.I’ll bring this thread back from a long nap. I just tonight received the black version of the 501 tonight as a gift from my youngest daughter. If I had purchased this knife myself it would be going back for refund.
Blade is as sloppy closed as I’ve seen. Will touch both liners easily and the pull must be measured in ounces not pounds. All but falls open the first quarter inch. If that’s not enough of a mess, the blade is about two sharpening away from being proud. I can actually snag it with my finger tip.
Spring isn’t flush open or closed...
I’m embarrassed my daughter paid 100 dollars shipped to get this for me. She had the blade engraved so an exchange is out of the question. I guess I’ll see what Buck will do but I don’t have high hopes that a company that would send out this garbage will actually correct it. I hope I’m mistaken.

I'm pretty sure that the problems you cite will be fixed to your satisfaction. I had a couple newer 501s come with a lot of side to side play, and I sent them to Buck. They came back with solid lockup and zero play.
DLT is a quality company, good customer service. I have no doubt that if you call and talk to Jordan he will make it right...to bad this happened but give them a chance to make it right. When buying on line I always ask(and DLT has) if they will inspect for centering, wobble and gaps.I’ll make sure she knows where not to buy.
Thanks guys. I’m sure you are right. Just kinda take it personally when my little girl gets this for her hard earned money. I’ll admit I’m more perturbed at dlt for sending this out then at Buck for making it. I understand how things get past QC in a factory but dlt actually had it in hand to engrave it so no way they didn’t notice. I’d say they new it was a lemon and decided to let the customer ( which is my youngest daughter) deal with sending to off to Buck. That’s a business ending practice as far as I’m concerned. My daughter at 19 has a knife collection to rival most adults that aren’t members here and has a bunch of knife buying years ahead of her. I’ll make sure she knows where not to buy.
Thank you. I emailed Buck yesterday morning and had a return label in an hour and it’s already on the way back to them.Sorry to hear of your issue, I ordered a custom 501 a while back and it came to me with the blade off center and a crack in the spring bar. Had it back in perfect condition from Buck in about a week. Unfortunately stuff happens but Buck will make it right. DLT is a solid company and I’m sure they can help as well. Hope you get your knife back the way it should have come soon.View attachment 1363829
I've had better service from DLT than some of the other sellers...
The most frustrating thing to me would be that your daughter was forced to gift something that she took great time, thought and money that wasn't the quality it should be.That would cause me to react also.
In the end your dealing with companies that will help correct the problem with out any run-around.
It's still really cool that your daughter did that for you. That's the biggest thing that stands out in this little story.
It's obvious she cares for you!
Glad we got the process started for you. I will look at the knife when it comes back and review the knife with our production shop. I apologize for your poor experience with us.Thank you. I emailed Buck yesterday morning and had a return label in an hour and it’s already on the way back to them.
I have no doubt Buck will take care of this.
