Buck vanguard 192 questions.

Do you think this knife is part of those " orginary model's " http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000EHWWLE/ref=ox_ya_os_product Edit: And yeah that seems to be the case, I'm picky about colors when it comes to my knives, it seems like i'll be doing my shopping in person mostly. or through accurate pictures from places like ebay.

Yep, a standard 192 with a 420HC blade.

Also, be aware that many many of the "accurate" pictures on eBay and other online dealers are stock photos and not photos of the actual knife you will get.

I would say that in person because of what was said before, lighting has a lot to do with the picture. All my knives were at the same time so lighting didn't make a difference at all.

Are the Cocobola handles dye color or is it laminated Cocobola?
As far as color variation that is the nature of wood. Dyed or not. You can use the same dye on the same species of wood and it will take it differently, showing a variation in shade.

Also the swirls op mentioned aren't swirls but ovals created by the layers of the laminate and glue being contoured.
Swirls are what you would see in burled wood.

I'm betting it's cocobola colored laminated birch. Died and laminated birch is what the majority of Buck's wooden handles are made of.

Yes I have seen videos and if you just look at them it is pretty clear that they have different variations within black or within brown but the two are too different from each other to just be the same handle. Just do some searching and you will see videos of the two different handle variations.

BKIL, I honestly can't understand what you just wrote. I checked all the listings and I see that there is a difference in price on some of the wood handled ones, but they are from other sellers listing there and not being sold directly by A. They all have the same model number. Since you can't actually "see" the "black" handle in person, how do you know that it's not just the look of the picture that's different?

You say you ordered "black" but received brown". Is there something other than the pictures shown that lead you to believe that they are two different Vanguards?

You must have had a sizable credit if you got it for $23.
