Buck Vanguard

Even though I'm impatiently waiting for the AG Vanguard I won , I also put it on my Christmas list. One to use and one to look at.

Just one to use and one to look at?????

There will be more :D...

(Its my favorite Buck model. I don't know why but it is!)

I was talking about for now. At least until after Christmas. I may have to get one of the rubber handle ones also. Just to compare ,you know.

Well I went to Cabela's today in St Louis. My wife was going to buy the AG Vanguard for my Christmas. They where out. The guy showed 2 in stock but couldn't find them. The one on display had some issues.

I got my new baby from Ebay. She is just like the old one. Now I'm happy. I alos learned alot from Joe on why there are some differances in the Ag Vanguard. I will post a picture of my New one soon.

On the newer AG Vanguards the spine is rounded instead of being flat like on the regular Vanguards .It has to do with the coating adheres better to a smoother finish. Therfore the tumble them longer. That also explains why the newer AG Vanguards have a darker finish than the older ones. The new ones look black while the old ones have a grayish color. I personally like the older ones better. But Joe looking into it and telling me makes me feel a whole lot better about the knife. I have my 2004 AG Vanguard now. The only problem is since they are made differant now than this one part of me wants to put it up. The other part says take it with me Friday in case I get my deer. Choices , choices.

Being a newbie, I am under the impression that I cannot link a site for a knife for sale that is listed elsewhere, but I ran across a great looking Vanguard limited edition (handle is box elder and impala jigged bone) at a well respected site (not the bay) this evening, but it's not cheap. If I can link it, someone let me know and I will. If not and you're interested, email me and I will get you the information. I used my 303 today to open a package from Post Falls.

Thanks Kyhunt!

I would use that vanguard!! There have been plenty of them made and I am unsure of how collectible these may be dwon the road with the AG logo on 'em... But the Bass Pro versions in ATS-34 and BG-42 now thats a different story ;) (I may be wrong) :D

Well it just may have to go with me tomorrow. I keep handleing it and comparing it to my BRKT Boone and BRKT Huntsman, but I really like the way that Vanguard feels.Tin Sue is that the Vanguard from AG Russel? If so I've seen it and it is a looker.

Yep, that's the one. So can we list that kind of information here??

HUMMMM.I dont know. I know we are not suppose to list ebay auctions but I've never heard anyone say about a store. I could be wrong but I dont see the differance between naming them and naming Walmart. But then again its not my site. Maybe someone will come along here and tell me its either okay or not to do it again.

You guys and this Vanguard business, just brings a tear to my eye.:D

I took the logo off one and wish I hadn't. The logo says what it is. But either way.

Yes, TS, I haven't ever seen a problem mentioning other names here. It is done in near any forum I have read. Like us comparing a Browning 90 to an Alpha 277.

But back to the Vanguards, definitely cool blades, but as I have said in other threads, not one I would use for deer skinnin. Tried it.

That rubber handle vanguard, compares to Daves rubber buckie. If you are going to seriously use, or use seriously, a vanguard, get one.

Pak Rat what do you use for skinning? I will be sure not to mention anymore business again.

hummm.... Is this where I get kinda flip and say that I use a Silverado 2500HD 4x4 for my Deer skinnin? :D Sirusly, I really do. :D

But to get to that part, I first use a 110 in the prep work.

For me, the clip 110 lets me make a smoother stroking cut, versus what I did with the AG Rubber Vanguard. I found that I had to hold the Vanguard at a whole different slant than the 110.

Don't get me wrong here, I like the vanguard. But after too many years of doin deer with a 110, I never adjusted to it.

Ckeck it out, If it says its for skinnin, it will most likely be a clip or modified clip. Go look at any of your 100 series blades.

Thanks. Is'nt the Vanguard (192) a 100 serires? Ok now I'm being sarcastic. I may just use my 110 on this one and pick up a 103. It gives me a good excuse to buy another knife.

Yeah, KY, I guess I think of the old 9 phenolic handles when I talk of the 100's. I will have to use different wording when talking about those. And if I get to digging around in the toy box there are a lot of others 1xxx series.

So I will stick to using the numbers. Chalk it off to this older n dirt thang.

If one of you guys want to try a rubber handel AG vanguard, just holler, I'll fire one off and let you give it a work out. Really.
