Buck Vantage Pro disappointment

Luis,
Send it back. I had one that did the same thing, and it pretty much had all the issues of yours. Bought another one to see if it was any better. It wasnt. I complained on the forum about it. Big mistake. Bottom Line in my opinion? they have major QC issues, but they will work with you to try and fix the problem.

I managed to fix all the issues by disassembling it and reassembling I must have opened/closed it at least 100 times by now. I am pretty sure it's good to go.
The blade is not longer hitting the liners, and the liner lock has worked 100% of the times.

i got my vantage pro a week ago, the production date on the box is 12/30/10. the knife was excellent out of the box, not one problem with the knife.

p.s. the blade can be centered by adjusting the pivot screw.

Glad it worked for you. It did not in my case and I was not gonna pay to send them back. Gave them both away to folks who were needing knives and chalked it up to a lesson learned.
As for this being crap, I will look and see if I still have the photos of mine in all its glory.

Don't blame Buck, they would have made it right. Anything made by humans is going to have flaws at times.

i also have a sneaking suspicion that some of the problems (not just buck) i read about might be occurring when the knife is at the retailer and not the factory.

Agreed, and the misalignment and dirt and other things are things that can be easily forgiven. The failed liner lock however is not and could have presented missing fingers, or even death (in certain circumstances), this is a flaw that no matter how human you are should NOT pass QC.
I've no doubt Buck would have made right, but they shouldnt have to be making right for something as critical as the liner lock.

can you post pics of the problem?

Not anymore as I said I fixed the issues. I suppose I should have taken pictures before but meh.

Anyways the problem was that the liner lock, for whatever reason was not actually going back to it's normal state (locked) because the blade would not open completely (off by like 1 to .5mm~ and required excessive force to allow enough space for the liner lock) thus the liner lock would not lock and the blade would be free to open and close which is pretty dangerous when you open it and you think it's ready to use without checking.

good luck with their S30 blade (with the special heat treat). I know they are supposed to be great but I wont ever buy one of em again. My knife after soaking it in water with a little bleach had the entire blade edge and about 2/16 upward of the blade just vanished. Metal disapered! None of the others knives I cleaned that day had that happen nor have I ever seen that happen. I have been cleaning my knives the same way for years and never even had so much as a spot of rust on em regardless of the type of steel. Be careful what the blade is exposed to is all I can say. Only other thing I can think of is Bucks S30v is alergeic to deer blood.

Wow what? Bleach? Man are you sure you didn't grab the Draino by accident, lol jk... Holy crap I am half tempted to see this in action myself...

my vantage pro had a bit of a wonky blade alignment when i got it, but after a quick disassemble and reassemble it was centered 100%, and has been ever since. one of my favorite knives for the money.

bleach and knives just doesn't sound like a good combination to begin with...

My experience, for what it's worth:
I just got a small Vantage pro.The blade was way off center, and the grind was all wonky. One of the screws holding the scale in place seemed stripped, but when I switched it out with one from my vantage select, it caught fine (oddly enough, the pro one fit fine in the select) I put it back together, found the sweet spot where it opened easily with no blade play, and reprofiled the edge.
I know I shouldn't have to do all that with a new knife, but for $37 shipped, I'm not complaining. And this may sound silly, but as a bit of a knife noob, I'm just so proud of myself for fixing all these problems. It is now one of my favorite knives. Having tinkered with it makes it really feel like mine

soaking any stainless steel in water and bleach is a bad idea and it shouldn't be done, it has nothing to do with s30v steel in particular. you shouldn't use anything with chlorine on any stainless steel. years ago i had dirty stainless utensils that i soaked in water and bleach. the bleach severely pitted the metal. i later researched and found out why.

not just you and the OP, but i wish everyone would post pics of these problems they having with their new knives.

I ordered same knife ,dealer called to pick it up last week .
I took it out of box quick look ,handed it back .
Blade was so far over to side it was ON the liner .
I was aware of issue and glad I checked . How can there be so many off centered blades ??
I have a mayo TNT it could not be better . I guess you do get what you pay for:(

nutnfancy had some problems with his, he got them all squared away when he send his buck in for warranty work....so you might try and do that...they fixed his up really nicely.

... Also, the mods don't like for the "jerk-it" smiley to be used in the public forum since there are all ages that browse this site. You might want to edit it out.

Lol, I'm pretty sure it's supposed to be a "thumbs up" smiley. Take your mind out the gutter! Haha jk, but for real though. :)

I've messed around with a Vantage Pro at my Local Bass Pro, and it was absolutely perfect. The blade was shaving sharp outta the box, and the pivot was decently tight. Nor did I have any issues with the liner lock, only that it felt a bit grainy, but I'm sure that would have smoothened out with use.

I bought my knife at a B&M shop and it was perfect out of the box. Early but secure lock up and very smooth flipping action. A tremendous value and one of my faves!
