My experience, for what it's worth:
I just got a small Vantage pro.The blade was way off center, and the grind was all wonky. One of the screws holding the scale in place seemed stripped, but when I switched it out with one from my vantage select, it caught fine (oddly enough, the pro one fit fine in the select) I put it back together, found the sweet spot where it opened easily with no blade play, and reprofiled the edge.
I know I shouldn't have to do all that with a new knife, but for $37 shipped, I'm not complaining. And this may sound silly, but as a bit of a knife noob, I'm just so proud of myself for fixing all these problems. It is now one of my favorite knives. Having tinkered with it makes it really feel like mine
As well you should. I still remember the first time I fixed an issue on one of my knives. I was so proud of solving the issue!!
