Buck Warranty Terrible

Buck's warranty was a serious let down. Now I will preface this by saying they have excellent customer service and the lady at Buck who emailed me was very nice. I sent in a Buck TNT to fix the vertical play on it and their idea of fixing that was to increase the lockbar tension so drastically that it now locks up at 99-100% and is impossible to close the knife single handedly. I mean I have a massive callous on my right thumb and I literally cannot close this one handed and it hurts my thumb badly to even attempt to. Not to mention the blade centering, that was perfect before sending it in, is now off centered. Thats pretty bush league and disappointing. I know Buck is known for top notch customer service and warranty but I'm not very pleased with them. I would rather have the vertical play than what I currently have to deal with now.

Thats what I got back from their warranty service. Would this be acceptable warranty repair for you guys or am I just being a jerk here?

The Buck Warranty is superb, so your thread title is kind of silly.

If they didn't do well on a particular knife, send it back.

Maybe they'll replace it with a 110 and you'll have a REAL knife.

;)

Yeah I regret my choice of words for the thread title since I shouldnt generalize their warranty like that and many have been very happy with them but not in my case. Honestly I'm afraid to send it back just because you may be right and they might not have a TNT to replace it with and send me a 110 instead. lol... :(

To be honest, this simply isn't the best forum to post this in. IMO, it belongs in GB&U, and should be moved there. You're not going to get many non-biased responses, posting in the Buck forum with something negative about Buck. Regardless of the fact that you're right to be disappointed.

You're probably right about that, hopefully a mod will move this thread to the appropriate place. Thanks.

The real test of warranty service, is how they respond when you get back in touch with them on this issue. Describe it exactly in the terms you've outlined here (minus the opinions about the warranty), regarding the difficulty in unlocking and the off-center blade. Be civil about how you communicate with them, and I'd bet they'll respond in kind. They're good people. Treat them as such, and they'll be much more willing to help.

Any company is capable of making mistakes, whether with the original manufacture, or in a repair service. They're all run by (imperfect) people, who can't always be at the top of their game. Based on what I've read so far, you've given them only one opportunity to make it right. Frame-locks can be tricky to adjust, regardless of who makes them. Give them another chance to do the right thing by you. I'd frankly be shocked, if they didn't make all the effort they can, to fix this.

Then again, if they replace it with a 110.....at least you know you'll have a knife that will work when you need it.

:D

I had two 110's that I sent in for a spa treatment about a year or so ago. When they arrived I was really disappointed.
The bolsters still had scratches in them, and they weren't polished very well. I know I could have sent them back in and they would have been redone, but I didn't want to mess with it, so I did them myself. I enjoy doing it, and they came out very nice....

The few other times I have dealt with them, they have been nothing short of amazing. So even though I had one bad experience, I wouldn't hesitate to buy Buck knives, or send them in for warranty work. Its disappointing, but thing shappen.

I would definitely call them, and see what can be done to fix your knife. Who knows, they may even have the same knife sitting around on a shelf somewhere, and can just replace it.

Buck has always backed their knives when I had a problem. You should contact them and let them know you are un-happy, I am sure they will make it right.

Best of luck,
John

Most of the Buck knives (liner and framelock) I have had were a little off center, it's not that big of a deal for me since it doesn't effect performance.

As for the lock bar being tight, It's the break-in period, just give it a chance. :p

Only a joke on that last part, contact them, see what they say.

Send it back in directly to my attention and I will take care of it.

That is just one of the things that makes Buck an outstanding company

How many companies will give you that kind of response ? Not many.

Wow, thank you for taking the time to personally take care of this for me. Unexpected and I now understand why buck is so beloved and respected.
