Buckles and blades

New buckle, old knife. Knife is a Craftsman (Deer Slayer) made by Schrade. Bought it at Sears back in 1970.

I forgot what bird it was that was believed to feed its chicks with its blood.

Last year I bought the one I'm wearing for $4 at the 4th of July flea market.
Eerily, this one was also marked $4, but because yesterday was day 3, 75% off at the estate sale, I got it for 1$.

I thought $4 was pretty odd, but $1 is of course odder. I'll check the bay. Maybe they go for 50 cents and I've been snookered twice.

And while he might be a bit young for a blade, he dang sure had a cool buckle he'd won. He ran down to the barn to shown it to my wife:

So figured we ought to make him a belt for it:

Got this buckle today. Marked $8, and "Special $5", and 20% off that. It's a Tech-ether, which I think are even better than Bergamot Brass.

He's also a pretty talented ranch rodeo competitor and he needed a new belt as ya can see in the above pic. We helped him out on that deal with this water buffalo overlay belt.

Yeah we used copper Chicago screws cause of all the copper tint on the front of the buckle. The whole back of the buckle is copper too. Salty likes copper. We made him his spur straps that have copper conchos and copper buckles on em too:

The Stroh's is from Taiwan, but my other one is a less comfortable vertical oval.
I've been looking at the turquoise and coral for a while, finally bought it.

My father's buckle that he purchased in Estes Park, Colorado, while working on a dude ranch during the summer of 1951. Today, Dad is a healthy 92 years old, but stopped riding horses about 5 years ago.
