Thanks David Martin David Martin I have bought some knives at gunshows, but haven’t been to a gunshow in years - need to change that and see what I can find. OH

Camillus began to phase in 420 steel in the early 1990's according to Phil Gibbs, (a long term employee at Camillus, started in 1979). This model was working
it's way through the Camillus factory in 1999. Thus, I would think 420 steel was used on this model. I have visited with Paul Bos on the Camillus contract knives. He flat told me, that he has tested many models that came from Camillus and through this found their heat treatment
to be sound. Most models tested from 56-58rc. I got my 1st model 334 in 2016, a parts knife. (newly assembled and unfinished). I have used it a lot and determined the steel is good and holds a decent edge. A flat grind, to me is easier to sharpen. DM

The 334 model shown above is my 'parts knife'. No silk screen on the blade, no limited edition emblem and no serial number on the bolster.
All the rest of the knife is correct and unused, without a box when I got it. I purchased it from Stumps. DM

Great info as always DM,Thank you.I am searching for one as we speak! The only steel I don't really care for is 420j2,it will sharpen up great but I have no luck with a new edge lasting any amount of time.the backsprings on this model look like they put plenty of tension on the blades while in use ,so the lack of a lock is no worry.

Late to the party, but here's mine:

Top is Camillus with gut hook and maple scales. I haven't seen another. Just says Camillus, no USA. It's supposed to be a factory build.

Side two are the Camillus Bullet and NKCA versions.

Then the two Buck Millenniums.

Note the pin configurations are different on the Maple w/ gut hook and the black Buck version from the other three. Also the lanyard hole material is different on those too. The two buck "Limited Edition" buttons are also different material to go with the lanyard holes. Yet the Hammer and Anvil shields are both the same material
Buck 334s and camillus.jpg buck 334s.jpg
Back side of the Millenniums. The black version has USA on the back side of the tang, the other doesn't have USA anywhere. Is the black one Delrin? Very smooth, no sawcut, rather pleasant to hold. Of the five, I like the Maple one the best, Gasp!

Bruce Allen Bruce Allen , thank for posting these good photos of your 334 Buck Trapper's. Some handsome models you have. I'll address your questions.
The black handle material is delrin. Camillus used that material a lot for folding knife handles. I looked at all of my 334's and I don't have a
jigged bone model that has 'USA' on the back of the drop point blade.? If someone has one I would like to know. I don't have a reason for that.? My black delrin model's have a nickle silver lanyard sleeve and the jigged bone models have a brass sleeve. All of mine have the same
limited edition emblem, 'edge for life' wording with the triangle and bronze color.
Does your models have a engraved serial number on the bolster? Thanks, DM
Could you show a close up of the different 'limited edition' emblem?

That's possible. The delrin handled model has nickle silver pins and lanyard sleeve. So, the same color L.E. emblem is possible. On it's original box it should have a sticker w/ numbers that matches the engraved serial number. Thanks, DM

Mak, the cocobola on your models is very handsome. I'm glad you stumbled across these with their box and papers. With yours, Hunter's and Bruce Allen's models this shows around 44 years of past history for this Trapper. It was a very popular model among outdoorsman. Chuck had good vision to iron out the details and get some of these through the factory before the window of opportunity closed. Thus, through him we
have them. DM
