Buck's Large Trapper

jb, that's a handsome Trapper. Some of those have a date stamped on the blade. Keep using it to see if you like it. Cut your lunch apple, summer sausage and such. D M

That's really nice JB! I'm waiting for mine to get here..In all my searching for the last few weeks I never seen that version so it must be uncommon if not rare. Can you share a little about that one? Is it a LE?

You know that will be a start to many more, LoL

maybe so. I can see why y'all like 'em. maybe next one a Buck if i can find one. ain't gonna try to catch up to you though.:)

thank you Sir. dont see a date on this one. yep that's my plan but need to sheath it first for carrying. youre right, too big for pocket carry.

Buck needs to make these again. I picked up several from the recent GEC run and they are an impressive pattern. I see why David uses them on the farm and in the field. I would like to pick up a Buck in jigged bone or wood. Both are nice.

thank you, Sir. sorry I skipped this post somehow. really know nothing about it. insert says 0170-6c steel, but I'm not so sure thats true. I looked that up seems like a 1095 variant formula camillus owned. similar to the old carbon v steel version of 1095. appears camillus maybe made this one, assuming insert is for this actual knife.....but I don't know for sure. seller called it strawberry bone...and it kinda does has a strawberry color and texture to it in appearance. so maybe thats how they are referred to and not just the seller calling it that?

20200827_165344.jpg 20200827_165521.jpgThis Bullet is a Bear Trap! After I got open (cracking my right thumb nail) I see what the buzz is about. It feels great in my hand and for tough cutting jobs I think the handle shape is just about perfect. David is there any way to loosen up the blades to make it a little easier to open? I just received it this afternoon and haven't cleaned it yet but my plan this evening is to flush and soak it thoroughly with Dawn and very hot water and possibly use a denture tablet? The seller said it was one of the last knifes to leave the factory before it closed so I'm sure it has congealed oil and grit from 2007 at least.
It's really a beautiful Trapper and I see now why the pattern is and was so popular. If I wasn't so committed to Bucks and the 112 I would be tempted to collect these but for now I'm really happy to have this one to play with lol!

I have put a small radius to the corners of the tang on mine so it doesn’t have to lift the springs so much. Be careful not to take to much off! That helped and I’m gonna take a little bit more to make it even better. I really don’t like half stops or the bear trap pulls. If I could get the pin material I would like to remove the blades to put a long radius on the flat back of the tang myself. I’m gonna look for some.

It really feels relatively light for the blades and handle. I held a double 110 years ago and it felt very heavy compared to the Trapper. But my memory is 93% from 2014..It packs a lot of knive in about the biggest knife I want to carry. I like the fact of no blade etch. I might test my blade polishing skills (none at present lol) just because I like mirror polished blades..

Nice one jb! The only tang stamp on mine is Camillus USA on the smaller blade. I haven't seen many Buck trappers and few (if any) were under $100.00. The very nicest complete NIB were always over $200.00 but I don't think that's out of line considering how few are offered. Does anyone remember what the different Buck versions sold when new? Inflation is a real factor since the 90's. I believe it only took $70.00 of 1990 dollars or less to buy $100.00 in 2020 dollars. The more I use my Trapper the more I like it! This week I'll send my 112's to the closet and give the Trapper a workout. One thing for sure with this bear trap is I will have to be careful...so it doesn't bite me.
