Bud Nealy Pesh-Kabz

Guessing is unsophisticated talk for "im" assuming;)

lol, only trying to add some humor to yet another post phil feels the need to turn into an iFight. But yeah, i dunno. lol. I'm so beyond amazed at some of the things people say on the internet. Back on topic guys!

I apologized to him specifically because it was a misunderstanding, and he has acknowledged that fact. You would be doing me a favor if you refrained from re-igniting flames that have already been doused.

I frankly don't get anything you are saying(Suzuki) in the above post. For that matter I don't get what the big deal is with Phil's post either. I have read and re-read it and it doesn't sound off beat to me at all. I don't think he may have read the OP as thoroughly maybe as he should have but I don't think he was insulting to anyone nor do I see where he was trying to cause a problem. The OP asked for opinions from folks who have owned Neeley's. So all other replies as regards to who has and has not are moot frankly. Unless of course you have then type away I say. keepem sharp

Whatever model you pick, I recommend getting 154CM steel because it is cheaper and in my opinion is better steel that S30V. Some people will argue the point but I haven't had any problems with a 154CM blade and see no reason to "upgrade" when all I am doing is paying more for no greater functionality.

To the OP-

My Thought the Same. S30V "Superman Steel" Is Hype. It's harder to sharpen, Doesn't like to take a Keen razors edge( It can be Done, But not as easily, Effortlessly as 154CM) And In My Experience with S30V It Love to "Chip". Even The little walmart Spyderco Native Chipped on me from just Bumping lightly into other steel. Big chip too. That is Just one example. It Really stinks to have 2 inches of tip break off your $300 knife made of "Superman steel"

I'm Not trying to Start an Arguement over steel. I am Just relaying my personal ecperience with S30V. In My Opinion There is no point,as quoted above to get an "upgrade" to a Fragile steel. 154CM is A LOT better In My opinion and a Lot of Custom Knife makers think the same thing. Go over to www.Bladeart.com and see $600 folders made with 154CM and tell me why a knife maker with a life time of experience and knowledge would choose that over S30V, when Bar stock is the same price, maybe + or - .50 cents.

That being said. I have the Custom Nealy Pesh with a 5 inch blade of 154CM with the WONDERFUL MCS carry System and I Must say it is possibly my Favorite Fixed blade knife in My collection. The Re-Enforced tip Is Wonderul. I could go on and on. You Will Not Go Wrong With the Pesh. Even the Big 5 inch Blade version that I have a SO easy to conceal. It is a Wonderful Knife and well thought design.

There are other offerings that are Just as Nice( all Mr. Nealys Knives are Superb). But I chose the Pesh after about 3 months of thinking it over and handling different Nealy knives.

The Only Other Person making knives right now that, In My Opinion are as nice as Mr Nealy,(I'm Talking about Medium concealable fixed blade self defense knives,) Is Mr. Al Polkowski. I Currently have a Knife being made for me by Him. ( Out of 154CM I might add). But He Doesn't have the Wonderful MCS Carry System, Just a "J Hook" Or Tek Lok. But thats suffecient for the size and use of the knive I have being made.

Good Luck with your New knie no matter what you choose. But I tell you from my experience you will not be Disapointed with Mr. Nealy's Pesh!!! If you are email me and I will take it off your hands. Nothing wrong with having 2 perfect knives.

Also, I recommend getting the Larger model. It looks On Paper to be big, have big Measurements. But in hand it is perfect size, and with the MCS carry you can put it where ever you want.

Thanks Hammer,
I'm gonna go with the 3.5 blade but you seriously have me rethinking the steel now. And yeah, I like all of Nealys pieces but the Pesh is unique. Others are too but I've been diggin' the Pesh for years now.

Yup, thanks to this thread I'm sure I'l end up with a Polkowski someday too. I had seen his work several years ago and liked it but for some reason I never really looked into it.

Another maker I would put in this category is Bob Dozier. I just can't make up my mind between the Arkansas or New York.

But does anyone else have a Pesh-Kabz ???
I do, 3.5" blade, 4" handle, S30V. :)

I'm confused by all the crosstalk. What do you need to know? The handle is just long enough for my hand, works fine, no slipping. Reverse grip even better.

My Cave Bear has a half inch more handle which I prefer. Unlike some people here, I like a SD knife to be familiar, so I put it to some ordinary use. Tells me something about how it handles, how it cuts.

Cave Bear does much better than the Pesh-Kabz at this. Pesh-Kabz might do better at a heavy stab. But the Cave Bear will eat flesh for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

Look at them again, maybe after you've gotten the Pesh-Kabz. The NY handle is very close to the Pesh-Kabz. I have the Arkansas Toothpick and the handle is a delight. It is totally flexible, almost any grip you can think of, it will do well.

i've had a 5" pk since 1995:eek: and carried it off and on iwb. it has ATS-34 steel. i like Esav choose to use mine for utility tasks which got me started on the whole fixed edc thing anyway.

i find it to be a well made and designed knife capable of doing simple utility chores like cutting fruits and vegetables, cardboard, and picking out splinters. it isn't a bushcraft knife by any means but it will get the job done.

the only negative i've had with it is i find the handle is rather thin. a thicker handle would be harder to carry concealed but if you plan on using it much some thicker slabs might suit you well.

Yes, Forgot About Dozier. Arkansastoothpic Is just about Perfect. Only 200-230 and sometomes on other sites you can find with carbon Fiber or white, Many Different handle colors. Mine is Just the Black with red Circle. There Is No Dis Advantage when the knife is in the hand(Dozier) it works any way you hold. Very Fast. And also good In Kitchen. Thing is, the sheath is only one way. front cross draw. Witch is Fine.

But with Pesh and MCS, you can carry it 100 different ways. Big+ for me.

ATS34 is what mine was. I like ats34 probably as much as bg42 and more than 154cm and don't quite know why that is. Neeley like I said makes a very nice knife and would like to have a drop point cave bear and may still look around for one. keepem sharp

PS Phil you are welcome but no thanks necessary.

just out of curiousity what did ya like about the MCS and how do you carry FB's, for how i carry FB's (ie IWB) i thought the MCS was a major disappointment.

and arent the CRKT PK's a folder? IIRC they are folders but i might be wrong.........its happened before lol.

Both my Pesh-Kabz and Cave Bear are rigged with the split belt loop at the end of the sheath, with the knife riding high vertical left rear. It's out of sight, available for reverse grip, just not fast draw.

yeah i thought the little loop ya screw on was cheesy, and thats how i usually carry a FB, imho the MASS is far superior for that kinda carry.

Hey Esav any chance of a picture of this
Thanks

I deserved that.

Use your camera phone in the bathroom mirror

Acually just a shot of the split belt loop at the end of the sheath - can't envision it.

I had a Nealy years ago. I got the Aikuchi soon after it came out. Wasnt impressed. The hollow grind was deep but the primary grind was too thick and I had to re-profile the blade to make it useable. The carry system while interesting wasnt very well executed. Of course this was an early model. The handle slabs were basically rubber with no texture and held on with glue and what looked like plastic pegs and started to lift soon after I started carrying it. To this day I still dont understand why they are so highly thought of.

Get a Dozier

Just my 2 cents
