Budget Folders - I can't stop buying them up!

I think you mean guard.

yes, indeed - lol - big difference, but both inherent to the non blade portion of a sword / knife - thanks for identifying my hasty mistake - the carson flippers form a guard as to both sides of the blade, not just one, like most other quasi guards, thus instilling the sensation of wielding a mini sword - however, the M21 i referenced and recommended also has a pommel, though not really round like some sword pommels, but seemingly sufficient to break a glass window, if not too thick - but its pommel is definitely sufficient to knock someone out if you don't want the legal hassles that comes with turning another human into glorified sushi - lol -

Just gotta say great pic! Those really pop together against the dark background.

I try not to buy folders in black anymore unless it's something I really want and there's no other option.

I have had periods where I wanted new knives but couldn't spend 100+ dollars on the ones I really wanted and bought up a bunch of budget stuff. So far my favorite budget blade as in under 40$ has been a simple spyderco ambitious. Pretty well constructed and dosent cry budget when handling it. 35ish $ it's about as good as it gets for the $$ IMO.

Edit.. The G10 kershaw cryo is pretty decent for 30ish as well.

Claude! I totally agree...
I have the CRKT M21-14SFG with VEFF serrations.
I think it is a great choice, for the price especially.
One of the more common injuries I witnessed working at a packing plant (slaughterhouse whatever you call the dang place), was stubbing. As in you are trying to stab the knife hits something and stops and your hand keeps going...
Happened a lot maybe not considering how many people there with knives.
Anyway, it has made me very partial to knives with top & bottom guard, to the point that I eliminate almost
all knife designs without such a guard...
I think they made a desert version as well...
Thanks Claude! Nice knife!

Thanks, bro. Great point!!! I was thinking only in terms of it serving as an absolute barrier {assuming the autoLAWKS double locking mechanism doesn't shit the sheets}, in the context of a weapon, with regard to protecting one's hands from being self-sliced. My damn thug mentality didn't take into consideration its usefulness and effectiveness in providing protection from self-slicing, in a work context. Glad you brought that up, further enhancing the utility of the M21-14SFG, as well as the aluminum handled SF with a higher price and ordinary serrations, instead of the menacing looking Veff Serrations we have on our SGFs.

Yes. A few desert varieties of the M21 and M16 are available and of equal and in some instances better quality {Taiwanese vs. Chinese Factories}. In addition to the M21-14SFG, I have the M16-14ZSF, which offers the most sturdy feeling Zytel handle I've ever gripped. My ZSF is described as the handle being a desert color, whereas it unfortunately instead emulates faux wood, but in a reasonably acceptable and tasteful manner. The so called "Big Dog" versions also exist, though the size is virtually identical, so I don't get the Big Dog designations. But the Big Dogs I've seen have been with desert colored handles.

For Kershaw, aim for the Sandvik 14c28n steel models. Its arguably the best steel in your price range. Blur, Skyline, and Leek all fall into this category, and all have a great following because they punch well above their price point.

Mercator K55K. There are going up in price but will not break your bank.

my favorite for years has been the Camillus Cuda..... I've tried to replace it for YEARS and just not found anything under 100.00 that I like better.... AUS 8 steel, G10 handle, liner lock, bout the same size as a rat 1 and IMHO is what the rat 1 should have been.... just a fan frikking tastic knife. Can be had delivered for about 35.00 if you look around.

It just doesn't get enough love.....

A light wrist flick and thumb slider use snap it open like an auto.... its a very user friendly knife.

As previously mentioned the Svord Peasant and Mini are both value blades that perform beyond their cost.

Seeing your post I decided to put up one of my favorite budget folders, a kabar dozier lockback, it's almost a direct proxy for the Delica. Gaw is up in general thanks for sharing the fun of solid but inexpensive folders!

The above-referenced CRKT M16-14ZSF
$50

Thanks Claude!
Great pics, it is one of my very Favorite knives!
The faux wood handle looks cool... Especially since you have the mean black one.
You have similar knives & background effects like I do haha!
Funny just how much alike many of us are!

Speaking of the Stubbing injury, this is something I witnessed myself.
One of my co workers wanted some time off...
So he held that sticking knife in his left hand, gripped the blade with his right hand, and pulled the knife.
Cut his hand to hell! Stitches, nerve damage, 6 Months off of work...
And you guys & gals will never believe me, but I witnessed this...
His first day back at work, on the first pig that morning, he said I need more time off, and did it again.
He purposely pulled his sticking knife through his closed right hand, again!
He was gone a similar amount of time, might of been 5 -6 Months...
So, after he did that, the maintenance dept modified our knives with D-Guards, to prevent that injury.
We didn't like the guards at first, but eventually we adapt right...
Thanks again for the pics Claude!

No budget knife list would be complete without a CRKT M16.

Too damned true. And IMHO, its M21 cousin. However, as a big blade addict, I only own and use the Special Forces 14 varieties of both knives. Some of the M16s and M21s have smaller blades and only half guards. Those ones are not for me.
