Budget knife storage?

What is a cheap way I safely store all of my knifes in one place, preferably a case. I have looked at a pelican case but it's over kill. I don't plan on dropping it off a cliff. I just want my knives to be in a soft storage place that they will be safe. Any suggestions?

No joke, I keep my fixed blades on a slack wrack coat hanger. They're heavy duty and can hold about 20 knives that aren't overly heavy. For folders they sell many pelican case Style options on the South American river pretty cheaply. I've seen 24 knife storage pouches go for around $10 or $15.

Plano-style parts trays are cheap and effective. The plastic should be soft enough not to mark the knives, and the adjustable dividers will let you accommodate most size knives.

The box from a Macbook Pro with the foam insert works great. An old suitcase designed for toiletries and pajamas, the ones with all the pockets you can get at a garage sale for $1 works fine, too.

I use Plano or similar organizer trays where each section is adjustable for width. They started making an "XL" tray that has been perfect for most fixed blades. You could cut some foam to fit the bottom if you felt so compelled, and I made some cardboard dividers so that within each section, I can fit 2-3 knives without the blades rubbing. For folders, I use some cheaper versions (Tool Shop brand as I recall) that work fine.

I use cigar boxes. They are sturdy and they look cool on the dresser.

I would just use a cardboard box and get a bunch of that soft foam for cheap, then just layer it with slices of cardboard to keep it rigid.

Cardboard->foam->knives->foam->repeat.

Could probably do that for under $10 and a big box would hold as many folders as a normal person has (50? I dunno what normal is)

I've got a bunch of Plano or Flambeau boxes laying around if you need a couple.
They even have rust prevention dividers & I have a ton of those.

Let me know!

I use cigar boxes. Get them free from a couple of pipe/cigar shops. Can't get any cheaper than that.

Isn't it a bit dangerous to keep sharp objects in your underwear?
@OP: you could decorate a shoe box and put the knives is zipp-lock bags.

Cigar boxes, then wrap them in a napkin. You can get cardboard cigar boxes for 0-25 cents at tobacco stores. For a buck or so you can get nice wooden ones.

Also, Menards has nice little clear plastic storage containers with dividers for a few bucks each. They are about perfect.

I got the spyderco spyderpak! I used to have a terrible time keeping up and organizing my knives but this makes it so much easier. It is 33 bucks on Amazon and holds 30 knives. They have a smaller one but it almost costs as much and only holds 18 knives.

It rolls up and secures with velcro. When open it has pockets with clear vinyl so you can see everything which is really nice because then I don't have to plow through a box thinking I lost something when I didn't. It has a strap and handle. I have mine hanging inside my bedroom closet door.

I also have a little box where I keep several that are in EDC rotation. There is a small and large one, as in knife capacity. Here is a pic of the small one to give you and idea.

Got a Harbor Freight nearby?

They have small, medium, and large plastic cases for under $4. The large ones has removable dividers and I use it for my knives and the small ones for parts.

And, like gazz98, I use desiccant paks and pad them with shelf liners from the dollar store.

For some uses Pelican cases are stupid.

Try a Plano Gun Guard 2 or 4-pistol case with convoluted foam. Sturdy, lockable. If you want, lay a silicone gun cloth over the foam and lay the knives on it. Depending on how many you have you can even store your folders open.

Around $25-ish for the large one if you shop around.

I almost bought a lingerie organizer before my mom told me what it was, because it is about perfect for folders. I ended up getting a larger tackle box and it will hold about 30 knives with ease. Much more manly, too.

Door hanging jewelery organizers aren't a bad option either.

I just bought a "makeup/cosmetics organizer"- like it so far- I'm sure I'll need a couple more

Plano or similar plastic storage bins/drawers are a few bucks each. I like to line mine with shelf liners from the dollar store. Nice, soft, and spongy. I also keep desiccants in it to absorb moisture.

How many knives are we talking? For a small amount - I recommend this:

For a large amount, I recommend a tool chest, that is what I use.

I always used a shoe box, or a cigar box now that I've thinned the herd.
