Budget knife storage?

I store knives, firearms, ammo, etc.. in used 25mm army ammo boxes. The 25mm is the chain cannon used on the US Army Bradley Fighting Vehicle so the used boxes are around if you search for them. They are waterproof, indestructible beasts and hold a bunch of stuff and can be fitted with a lock or bolted to a floor for security. They are made from some sort of nylon composite, open at either end, have waterproof seals, and you can run over them with a tank, or a Bradley, without damaging them.

I always use this method for short or long term knife storage and have never had any corrosion issues. (1) I wipe the knife's blade and other steel parts with Breakfree CLP (Cleans-Lubricate-Protects) which is another US army derived product that is relatively cheap and easy to find at any gun store and most sporting goods or outdoor stores. (2)Then I put the lubricated knife into a locking plastic ziplock sandwich bag, fold it up and put it back into it's original box. (3)That individual knife box then goes into a big Freezer style ziplock bag with a bunch of other boxed up knives. (4)Then these large ziplock bags go into the 25mm ammo case.

It is easier to do than it sounds and they will last for years and years without any corrosion issues. I want to avoid anything that collects or holds moisture, cloth, leather, etc.

You can find the used 25mm nylon FRN ammo cans for around $10-25. One can will probably store 50-100 knives.

Here is some info about the 25 mm ammo can you want to get (better than the .50 cal cans you see which are metal and will rust).

My ten dollar storage placed in the sock drawer works fine for me.

I agree with the large Spiderpac suggestion; I have two.

I have several of the Kershaw and ZT storage bags, and I really like them. I found Rubbermaid storage containers the right size to fit six bags side-by-side for easy access. The center section of the ZT bag has fewer, but bigger, pockets for larger knives. If you don't mind a bag without a logo, BladeHQ has bags without the logo for $12.95 right now, which is a great deal.

Plano-style parts trays are cheap and effective. The plastic should be soft enough not to mark the knives, and the adjustable dividers will let you accommodate most size knives.

I use one of those for my EDC knives. I can put 16 large folders in it. Thinner knives I could fit 24 in there, shorter knives that could go up to 36 in there. This particular case model was fairly popular and they made a carrying case that would carry 4 of these with one handle, so you could carry up to 144 of your favorite knives with you.

I would like to have 2 more of these so I could put my older knives, multitools, etc in them.

This is the best way to store your knives and gear, and is a great investment. Just throwing it out there. GO WITH A HARDIGG BY PELICAN.
This is the best solution to your storage without buying a heavy safe that is bolted to the ground. This will cost you 150-170 dollars.

This is what recommend to use. Waterproof, durable, and air tight.*** For all storage of outdoor gear and valuables. The foam can be cut with any serrated kitchen knife to your needs, removed as well. slits can be cut in the foam in the lid and bottom foam to insert flashlights (AAA Maglights), tools (Wrenches), and small knives. VERY durable case, completely waterproof, THICK plastic, secure metal clasps. The only thing missing is a way to lock the box up;

***Just two sets of these; drill holes, use modified U bolt trailer plates and lots of gorilla glue/two part epoxy (the trailer plate to the box) for a master lock. Place where ever you would like on the box for the best convenience and security.

DESSICANT*** Use at least 60-100grams, this will repel water and keep your box moisture free.

You metal goods are secure, easily moveable, moisture and air tight, controlled and safe. You will never worry about them again.

For your loose folding knives and small objects (wrenches, clips, screws, handles) Use bags of some sort to keep them from banging around and scratching. Either ziplock or some bag that is the perfect size.
(Bass pro/plano -- Or waterproof survival boxes in the camping section of your supermarket work great as long as you buy plastic bags that are the same size as your knifes ~ The best way to do this I have found is to buy some online or go to a pipe shop. They carry bags in all shapes and sizes with different patterns on them for organization. Keep 'em oiled with Hoppes Weathergaurd.)
Bags:
Cheap, disposable and will keep your knives from scratching each other.

For bigger storage needs: http://www.ebay.com/itm/HARDIGG-MILI...item2ecbbf3631. You will need to find another listing, this one is old and just for reference.
Hardigg will last you the rest of your life. Get a big one, your collection of survival equipment and valuables will grow.

You both could store your folder boxes in one as well. Looks like you both have it figured out pretty well, just an idea? ;)

I use "Really Useful Box" which are sold at national office supply stores and come in various sizes. They are sturdy, look good, can be lined with felt or whatever, translucent plastic, and easy to open and close securely. These are my better knives or the ones that I look at more often. The others go in a Rubbermaid tub generally in their original boxes.

Those are the exact ones that I get from work. When they come in broken I take them home and swap lids and bottoms to make good sets and keep any that are only slightly cracked. The blue dividers are treated with zerust and should protect them in storage.
We go through thousands of those in a year and I have quite a few.

I ran out of room in the oak machinist chest's several hundred knives ago and went to a 16 drawer roller cab. I use the larger drawers for the boxes and the thin ones for easy access to my collection. Have it in my living room but Im single might not work that well for married folk.

I would say the spyderpac but having the family home broken into twice, to me that would just make the robber's life easier because they would be in one convenient place. As for budget storage, ive seen people recommend plano organizers, tackle boxes, and cigar/jewelry boxes. I personally use old shoe boxes. All my knives i try to keep the boxes so thats how i protect them from not getting scratched in storage. Fixed blades i have them in their own shoe box. Shoe boxes to me seem like the most budget oriented storage container, after using the boxes for years the sides start to wear our and get some slack, so what i did was go around the walls of the box with painters/duct/packing tape about 10 times to reinforce the sides but you can always get change the box.

Those clear vinyl shoe organizers that hang off of of a door work well. I'm currently using a machinist tool box. It has velvet lined drawers and is made of walnut. Got it for $50 for an 8 drawer
