so im on a budget of around $100~ and i want either a good folder or a nice fixed blade. i personally do not like large knives (the KA-BAR Full Size US Marine Corps Fighting Knife, Straight left such a nasty taste in my mouth that i hate em now) and personally prefer knives at a make of 5 inches in total or 3 1/2 inches of blade . i am open to almost all options.

hmm not a huge fan of bucks but i have to say that that knife is beautiful and i DO love me some S30V...what model is this buck?

This is the 547. Why do you dislike Bucks, may I ask? No argument, just curious.:D

When you say 5 inches are you talking total length?

my friend let me use his buck 110 for a month (we decided to try eachothers knives) and i just didnt like the feel and it didnt really fit what i use my knives for. the only reason i would want a buck (such as the 110) would be for my collection and MAYBE a use here and there

My favorite small fixed blade FOR ROUTINE CARRY/USE, and within your budget, is the LT Wright Patriot. (My most commonly carried/used fixed blade is from one of the makers, but more expensive)
For a folder, there are too many options without knowing more about your preferences: modern or traditional, blade length, etc.

I'd carry several buck models before the 110. So don't let your dislike for the 110 discourage you from getting another Buck knife. They've got a great warranty and most are made in the US.

I like the Buck vantage line for the money. Spyderco has several good blades for under 100 like the endura, delica, tenacious, & ambitious.

If you can pinpoint a few more specifics in what you're looking for or it's use, there are plenty of people here that can give you great advice.

an all around work knife/edc. something i can use in an everyday environment for like cutting boxes and ropes, food prep, edc. i have an izula 2 and it does almost all these task perfectly but you know how the addiction is...even if you have the "perfect" knife you still want different ones :D
EDIT: i would totally give buck another chance but not ka-bar...that knife is just crap.

Spyderco Endura - 3.75", VG10 $70 or ZDP-189 $100 - slicing beast

Cold Steel Recon 1 - 4", CTS-XHP $95, Spear Pt, Clip Pt, or Tanto, Plain, Serrated, or Combo - extreme hard user. For the money, the closest you can get to a 'fixed' blade in a folder.

What kind of primary grind do you prefer on a blade? Flat? Hollow? Convex? Scandi?

Hi. We could probably help you more if we knew which KaBar you are talking about, and what your problem is with it. (a Kabar Dozier Folding Hunter is an obvious choice for you, IMO.)

Were are not mind readers. We dont know you. You have 10 posts and I have read through every one of them and no mention of Kabar is made in any of the earlier ones.

What's the damage?

OK. You use knives for the things mentioned above.

You aint making things easy. You are kind of making us jump through hoops to help you.

How about this "I am looking for a good folder at about $100. I dont like brand A because B; and I don't like brand C because D. I DO like E because F. I would like to use this knife primarily for X, Y, Z."

KA-BAR Full Size US Marine Corps Fighting Knife, Straight...i was going off what ive seen everyone else refer to it and the blade bent, chipped, and its extremely uncomfortable. i barely even used it. i cut some wood and the blade bent, this is not a knock off either. i got the official papers and whatnot saying it IS a KA-BAR knife

Did you baton with your Kabar is that what you meant by cut some wood ?

So, one of the most widely produced, beloved, and used knives on the planet, in the act of barely using it, yours bent AND chipped? Seems odd, but I'll take your word for it.

Get a Kabar Dozier Folding Hunter.

Wait a minute. Now I'm confused. What parts of that did you just read, and what parts did you actually experience?
