Looking for recommendations on a bug out bag knife. ...ive read alot on this forum but this is my first post. Some of the knives im considering are as follows.

Bk16. ..read alot of positive reviews on it especially when compared to esee knives

Ontario ranger falcon.
Ontario ranger rd4. .....the knives look great but the jury seems to be out as far as quality....i don't know if it is a chance I want to take.

Bk2. .....probably exactly what im looking for but part of me wants to try a knife by a different company. ....my primary is the bk7 and while i love it id like some variety.

Esee izula. ...the smallest of the bunch but seems to be highly recommend.

In short i want a knife that can be relied upon to perform above and beyond in the event of a real emergency. To perform as a knife. .pry bar..or what ever i need it to be.

As for price...ideally under 100 is ideal. ...also i did not include any esee knives other than the izula purely based on price in my province which is Ontario. ..esee seems to be hard to get foe a descent price in Canada.

In closing any and all suggestions Willbe greatly appreciated

A lot of people love the bk16. Personally i love it. But i also have Mora bushcraft in carbon and stainless. I like it so much i never use my other Moras. Id get a 16 and a Mora.

If you're wanting a sub 10in overall length blade that you can pry with, and is different than a Becker. I think id go with the esee 4. Its similar to the bk16 in shape, but thicker.

You also might try out the bark river bravo 1. They are quite robust as well.

Good luck with the choice :).

I've always considered a Camillus (or Ka-Bar) USMC a pretty good bugout bag knife.

Also the original HEST fixed by Rowen.

Buck 110 would work in a pinch.

I have the Ontario falcon. The jury reached a verdict a while ago and mines been sentenced to life with no parole in a hard labor camp. I put a convex edge on it and nothing gets in its way. If you have any specific questions just let me know.

The BK-2 is 10 and 5/8th inches so I don't know how strict you will enforce the 10" overall length criteria.

The BK-2 can absolutely "be relied upon to perform above and beyond in the event of a real emergency. To perform as a knife. .pry bar..or what ever" and can be readily sharpened in the field. I really like my BK-16 and it is a sweet knife (Sweet 16) but for your application(s) the BK-2 sounds like the choice.

I have a mora companion, BK 15, and a BK 2 some sak and a rat folder in my bag.

Mora is always a great option to add for every bag!

Fwiw, in my bag there is an 1095 Schrade extreme survival... For the price it can't be beat (coupled with a Mora), and you can litterally forget about them until you need them. Play with all your "nice" Knives as you please, and there's no dire urge to dig out the $15 Mora and $35 Schrade out the bag, they can sit there until called upon, (with the occasional inventory of course).
If shtf and you need to "bug out", you may very well still have the chance to grab some others before ya go, but even if not, you know there is at least 2 very capable no frills Knives at your disposal.

If the BK2 at 10.6" overall is okay then I'd recommend the BK15 at 10.4" over the BK16 to pair with your BK7.

The 15 is 'slicier' than the 16 and is on clearance sale at ~$40.

Toss in an Ontario Rat1 or Rat2 or a Mora and you're all set with a Large-Medium-Small combo.

I have a Swamp Rat RMD in mine. For 100 dollars I would try to find a used ESEE 4 or a Rowen made DPX HEST I would not trust a Ka-Bar product for this situation.

Thank you for all of the suggestions. .....and where would i be able to find the bk16 for 40 bucks? At that price id get one regardless.

Mora Classic Number 1s. At 14 bucks a pop you can put one in every vehicle and in every bag.

I went with a Cold Steel Chaos. Very solid, keeps a good edge, and I really like knuckle knives.

I wish i could get a cold steel chaos but with those i would be pushing my luck with the Canadian gov't. ...if the handle was made of a polymer it would be a different story. On a side note. ...has anyone have any experience with the tops Bob. ....out of my price range for the topic but I'm curious about it and it's features.

No knife is a better pry bar than the BK2. However, I'd look to grab an ESEE 4 if you can score a good price on a used one.
