Bulldog seahorse looking folder with stag

Thanks guys, not sure of the exact makeup of this steel, but it's the Carbon bladed
version of the folder, gets very sharp!

blade play of the main blade, quite a bit of side to side...

Arghh! I hate to hear that. :grumpy:

Yah, try owning it...but I'm over it sort of

I have the 3 7/8" version of that knife with bonestag handles.
The blades are tight, and have great action. However, I have been disappointed with it as a
whittler because the small blades are so thin they will actually bend while whittling to the point
they rub when closing the knife. Needless to say, it will take a great edge, but the give in the
blades is unnerving to say the least. Alan

I've only whittled a little with the small blades but maybe they are a little
thicker than yours, but both blades are ground very thin, when I take that
knife out I usually pull one or the other smaller blades to do the chore,
works quite well :) I can't IMAGINE having a custom of this style, maybe
if I'm good and ...And say my prayers by night,
May become a wolf when the wolfbane blooms
And the autumn moon is bright.

wait, that's about becoming a werewolf, well, maybe that would work too
fingers crossed ;)

You can fix that.

Pad the bolster carefully, top and bottom, so you don't ding it. Take a tack hammer and tap gently where the hidden pivot would be. Check frequently to see how well the tapping has compressed and peened the pivot, and tightened the blade.

I've done a mess of slipjoints when I was a kid that loosened up on me.

I don't know if anyone has ever mentioned this to you, Gary, but you do incredibly beautiful leather work. :D

thanks Esav, well, not sure if I can do the bang up job on this folder, here are two
images, the back springs are flush with the inside width, so don't know if it would help
to try and whack the bolsters closer together on this one or not;

Here you can also see how thinly ground down the main blade is, very nice! :)

and the back side matchup of the tang to the springs, you can see the gap between
the tang and bolster;

Whaddaya think?

If it was mine, I'd have been tapping on it already. But it's something you have to do very carefully, or you'll make it so tight, the blades won't come out.

The backsprings may look tight, but the pivot could still be loose -- you can't see if the handles are tilting outward, especially with irregular natural materials.

You might measure as precisely as possible the distance between handle liners at the backspring and at the top.

Hey, that worked! :) a lot better now, barely any blade play, have the pivot pin
sticking through the one side, the back side, and I'm hand sanding that down now
thanks sir, I'm a happier camper ;)

The sheath fits vertically on a belt, the top section is folded down behind
the sheath forming the belt loop, tightly along the full length, the sheath
is all one piece of leather, sort of leather origami :)

Here's a couple shots of a Buck 110 sheath that will show you how the belt loop
is fashioned on my vertical sheaths;

Front side, nice stag handled 110 !

back side, has my G2 mark, as well as the month and year, and the right footprint, to
remind you when you wear it, to always start out on your right foot/best foot forward
type of thing...

and for good measure, here's a shot of the knife itself, a real beauty,

you still showing off that old Buck 110 ;) Man I gotta order me one of those from the custom shop.

Yup I still have G2 sheaths that I no longer have knives for , his work is that good.

It makes me drool....:D

Frids

Thanks Frids, don't forget to wipe up, it can damage a keyboard! :)

And thanks John, of course your work is exceptional as well!

Love the foot idea- very spiritual.

Thanks, just something I added a long time ago, a fellow asked me what it
was once, I told him I was sorry, the sheath fell to the floor and I accidentally
stepped on it ;)

Working in Spain this week, had this knife on my belt and had to cut open a crate.
It had a plastic banding, but what I didn't know was that it was a different
type than what I've cut in the states, a very thick solid plastic, like a very thick
tie wrap, I was surprised the knife didn't zip right thorugh it, but the reason
was easily understood after seeing the cross section. Had some regular
plastic banding on our machines and sweetly sliced through that like I figured
it would do :)

I liked this thread so much...I ordered the same pattern knife in Ivory.

When it gets here I'll have to contact Mr. Graley for a sheath.

You'll love the knife, I was tempted to get the ivory one too, but went with
a more rugged looking scale, a little better to grip with.
Used the knife today on the machines I was installing, a pleasure to cut with.

Use it in good health!
