What steelwill pass hard abuse tests and will also not need to be sharpened for ever.? Good corrosion resistance is bonus points.

I second D2! Its a great steel. It holds an edge for a good while and I have been very impressed with it in my Benchmade 710.

Surgical stainless. It's so good it's like it's from some weird future knife that doesn't even exist yet. Either that or forged in a monastery high in the mountains of Tibet and jealously guarded by the warrior monks who have sworn an oath of supreme celibacy, like their fathers, and their fathers before them.

Since the only criteria are "bulletproof" and "keeps an edge forever" how about taking a thick chunk of 420J, grinding an edge on it, and then never using it? As long as you don't use it it'll hold its edge forever. ;)

I was a little dramatic about the requirements. The post is asking for help finding a steel that would pass abuse/destruction tests better then others. And secondly would stay sharp longer then most steels. And again stain resistant is a pluss. I have heard infi os pretty bad ass bit that its not much different from cpm 3v so thats where i am now. What is better?

Here ya go. The Swiss Army laser knife. It never needs sharpening and won't rust.

Well treated 3v has great edge retention and toughness but doesnt have enough chromium to really be stainless. Infi is reputed to be very stain resistant. Swamp Rat's SR101 is tough with excellent edge retention and is coated against corrosion. Elmax may be another contender. One of the forum knife makers (possibly Nick Wheeler?) has a thread with some excellent comparative testing of Elmax and 3v if anyone can find it
