Hey, anybody out there ever had a problem with Admiral Steel? I hate to be posting this, since I'm sure they're a good company, but I just wondered if I was an isolated case?

About five or six weeks back, I ordered two pieces of steel online from their website--1 4"x1/4"x36" piece of 1095, and 1 1"x1/8"x36" piece of ATS-34. At the time, I was a little perturbed, because the website never gave me any kind of confirmation that my order had gone through, so that I could print or save it. Still, I thought, I've never had a problem before, so...

Well, two weeks or so goes by, and I'm doing the jonesy dance ("Want my steel! Want my steel!!!!). Finally, one day, I come in and there's a huge, HEAVY box. GREAT!! Well, I go to open it up, and it takes (no S**T, here) a CROWBAR to open this thing. Needless to say, the box gets pretty well destroyed in the process, so nothing's gonna be hiding in THERE. Long story short, my 1095 is there, but not the ATS-34. So, packing slip in hand (which shows both pieces on it), I go to the phone, and call Admiral. Again, sloppy on my part, I didn't get the name of the woman I talked to. This, because she assured me that the other had gone out in a separate shipment, and would be arriving in just a few days. Oh, ok. So I'll wait...

Three weeks later, with no steel materialising, I email Admiral from their website, and, receiving no answer, I called. I had it explained to me that both pieces should've been in that box, and that, "...that was a sealed fibre box, sir...it would have been in there..."

Well, I can assure you, it was not. I don't think this was the shipper's fault, as the parcel was delivered intact and in good shape, still sealed. However, I am definitely beginning to lose my patience, here. Every time I talk to Admiral, I come away feeling like I'm either being called a liar, or that I'm some sort of idiot that could lose ten pounds of steel.

Anybody else ever have this happen, and if so, how did you pursue it? 'Cause I sure don't seem to be getting anywhere with this...

:( :(

I don't buy steel, but never the less.If you did not receive an item, demand they ship it immediately. If they do not agree to reship the missing steel than contact your credit card company and challenge the charge.I can't think of any other way to handle it if they keep shoving the problem back in your lap.Good Luck

Call Admiral and ask for Terry Summers. He is the only one to deal with regarding knife steels. I bet he can help.

maybe they dont have any......Latrobe makes it...they aer a part of Timkin Bearing Co.....All the steel I ever got from Admiral had the WORST bark on it Ive ever seen....never again!! :(

Based upon your story, first take Bobby Branton's advice.

If that doesn't work, take TOMBSTONE's advice.

Your story would make anyone more than a little angry.

Good Luck and sorry to hear of your misfortune.

Please post and let us know how it turns out.

Do you have a copy of the weigh bill with the weight listed on it. If so, if you have not done this already, check the weight of the steel that you got and the box it came in against the weight on the weigh bill. If it comes out to the same thing it is obvious that only the one piece of steel was shipped.

If Admiral can definitely prove that both pieces were sent then it will have to be taken up with the shipping company. If the box was totally intact, with no holes in it, then it is highly unlikely that this was the case. If they can not prove this they should send you another piece of steel immediately. Anything else is poor customer service and shows a company that should not be trusted to do the right thing.

If they make this thing right, let us know, I would be very happy to see this happen for both parties involved. If they do not make good, let us know that as well so that we will know and be able to warn others. It is amazing the power that a pissed of customer has if he is willing to tell everyone what has happened, because those people will tell others as well.

If anybody from Admiral happens to read this post, think about whether it is worth the bad publicity you will get. Do not take any more time with this, get it resolved or be willing to suffer the consequences

This may seem like a rant, but I can not abide poor service. It will make me never use a company again.

Well, it looks like they're at least going to make the effort...spoke to Linda Lewis today, and she (sort of grudgingly, but oh, well...) agreed to send me out another piece of ATS-34, via UPS. It should ship on Friday (what, they only ship once a week?). Hopefully, I'll have it by next Wednesday...

Sorry to sound so b!tchy, but I guess I expected more. I'm not sure why, exactly...I guess they do enough industrial business that it won't kill them to lose the knifemaking side of the business. Odd way to do business, though...

While I'm willing to give them a second chance, does anybody else have a good dealer, in case this proves to be typical? Preferably someone with a website and online ordering?

TIA!

Still no ATS-34. I'm trying to be patient, here...really, I am.

But I think I may safely mark Admiral down to my "Only order from these folks if it not's an emergency, you have the spare cash to duplicate the order somewhere else, and everyone else on earth is out of stock..." list.

Oh, well. It goes on and on and on and on...

Well, the saga has finally come to it's end. I received my final piece of steel from Admiral yesterday, some six and a half weeks after ordering or so...

Now, where to start on the backlog...
