Bunny Knife 2022

At risk of putting a Dingo in charge of a maternity ward may I suggest we start work on figuring out how to get Case to build a 2024......my thinking is :
A: they will do the 500 or more that GEC are not keen on.
B: They will be Porchworthy but not super flipperous.
C: we can have polls again....only the strong and willing need apply.
Yours faithfully

I could be wrong but I think I remember someone
mentioning Case was asked before but declined.

Our request could possibly cut into their Halloween/NASCAR/Religious/"World's Greatest Dad, Uncle, Son" themed knife production, and you know they can't have that!!
I like the idea of a Case made forum knife, but I would want to be able to handle it in a local store before I committed to buy.

(snaps fingers and points) Hit it on the head. Case makes an excellent knife....when you get one that's properly made. I'm fortunate that ACE Hardware near me has someone who's clearly a big Case fan on their knife ordering staff, because their Case selection is always really decent. The other ACE downtown....vastly less so, but man they're sure ready to sell you all the Benchmades at MSRP you'd care to buy!

Anyway, yes I agree, I wouldn't turn down a nicely made Case Forum knife.

This seems like a good time for this overly long story. I'll try to be brief, haha.

A couple few years ago (about 3 to be as accurate as I can) a buddy who runs a flea market type shop wanted to get into carrying knives. Knowing my interest, he wanted some suggestions for brands to carry and such. I can't recall telling him specifically to order a bunch of Case, but he did, and got maybe a dozen or 2, again the exact details escape me.

I was busy playing with the knives he had ordered me when the first big order came in and I paid no attention to the Case selection as it was basic amber bone and yellow synthetic type stuff.

Anyway, time rolls on, and he is selling knives. SAKs, Rough Ryders, Marbles, all selling briskly to walk in traffic. How's the Case selling? Poorly. Customers complain of high price. In a nutshell, I inspected the Cases and didn't find a single one I would have bought. Now, I'm a certified Knife Weirdo, so my standards are not those of the general knife buying public. I admit that. But the bottom line is they weren't selling, he refuses to order more, and they sit there to this day. It's been a bit since I've checked, I guess. But I feel bad for having had suggested Case (which he insists I did, lol).

PM me for info on user quality Case knives at yesterday's prices! 😁

How about a stockman; clip point, lamb foot, and caplifter. Stag covers wouldn't be a horrible idea.

Recently Case has been better but there are still cosmetic issues from time to time. My speculation is they let things get a little too lax a few years ago and have since corrected for it.
Worst issue I've had with Case is blade rub, there have been some pretty bad gaps in back springs too, which bugs me but did not effect function of the knife. Perhaps one or two cover gap issues, which along with the blade rub were fixed by Case, the back gaps they said were within their QC tolerance. The last ten or so Case knives I have purchased of recent manufacture have all been good. Mostly trappers, swell center jacks, and a few stockmans. It does seem popular to badmouth them.

Buck 301's and 303's have been worse. Have a 301 that the main blade spring has almost no tension on. Some of the grinds on them are uneven and look odd. Other than the weak spring, they work and cut well. Buck released a Monthly special edition last year that had construction issues, some people complained but largely it has been ignored.

Rough rider has been trash for me, inaccessible nail nicks, poor finishing, weak springs, to get a serviceable knife from rough rider's regular line has been the exception of the 6 or so I've tried out. For some reason they get a pass, rarely hear of people complaining about major issues I have experienced first hand. No more chyna knafs for me, fool me once.

TL;DR Case would be cool for next years knife if they would do it. Buck has done past ones why not another? Rough rider is trash.

This is what happens when super low cost and ready availability fools folks into thinking "This is just as good!". Every single RR knife I've ever personally handled has been....well, it's worth exactly what you paid. I've had poorly made Case knives as well in the past, but when I'm able to find good ones in person, I tend to grab them up.

Sometimes Case drops the ball, other times they knock it out of the park…

In my experience it largely depends on the material used as well as the pattern. Every synthetic (G10,Micarta) Case I’ve seen has been pretty close to flawless, it’s the bone that has lead to handle gaps for me. As far as pattern, I think some just in particular avoid some of the gapping and backspring issues- the big ones seem to be better finished from the ones I’ve seen.
