It's that time of year again: turning over the soil and planting vegetables. I needed to dig a shallow hole in the back corner of the garden, in order to start a new compost bin.

As I was digging, I felt my shovel hit something hard. Expecting just another rock, I was surprised to uncover an old metal tackle box.

Wow, this is interesting!
I've lived here for almost twenty years and my house was built in the late 1930s, so I assume this was buried some time in between. The box is pretty heavy, and I wondered what could be in there. The loot from a bank robbery, or just a kid's forbidden slingshots or playboys? (when I first started the garden, I did dig up a lot of old empty beer cans, as if someone had been hiding their drinking habit, so maybe this is where they kept the good whiskey! 🙂)

I brought it inside and opened it up and what do you know? Along with a few tools and someone's marbles collection, there are some knives in there!

Upon closer inspection, I'm disappointed to say they're almost all just a bunch of Delrin handled folders. Probably from the 1970s or 80s, so no real antique treasures. 😞

Oh well, I suppose it's still a neat find.

I love delrin! Send them to me!
I'll even pay the postage.

Can I buy one of those Kabars ? 🤔 🤔 🤔 🤣
Other than my whole roof getting blown off and a tornado crippling poor little Elijah J. last night and sucking all my old knives through the rafters, it's just another fine and windy day in the Bluegrass .................... April 1, 2023.

P.S. - I need knives ! ;):p

Rob, I hope this post is an April Fool prank too!
We did have a big storm roll through around 4am. It must have been right on top of us, the thunder shook the whole house, rattling pictures on the wall and glass in the cabinets.

Anyway, going with stag today....

Great find 😉😉. That kabar jack in the middle top bin is one of the few that started it all for me. When i was prob 6 or 7 years old my grandfather would watch me while my parents worked and we would run around town doing errands. Well one day we stopped at the army/navy store and they had a cardboard box of knives behind the counter and let me look through them all while he talked with the guy behind the counter. I ended up picking that kabar jack and a camillus demo knife. Thanks for posting, it brought back a great memory for me. And yes i still have both knives im just too scared to loose them now to carry them.

Yes ... just April foolin' Gary ...... but I probably shouldn't be foolin' about the weather, since we are under wind advisory and high wind warning just a few counties east of here ..... again ! :(

The storm rolled through here at 2am.

Two fine knives for you today. 😊

The barehead, or the one with an end cap?
Choosing a Kabar Jack and a camillus demo knife shows you had good taste in knives from the beginning. 👍
