Here is a knife I just finished up for a forum member. The knife was built to his specs. It is D2 with a full flat grind, blasted finish with etched tiger stripes. The handles are lignum vitae and the firesteel has a matching handle.

Comments are always welcome, critiques encouraged.

Thanks,
SDS

Although the tiger stripes appear to be roughly textured they are actually smooth to the touch. These were specifically requested by the purchaser. He had seen them on another knife I made some time ago.

love the spine jimpings and the stripes, shape of blade, the wood is'nt my thing but that does'nt matter cuz the knife is notmine...lol

very nice!

I dig it! I bet the jimping throws great sparks. I like the blade shape. I love Lignum Vitae. The blade shape looks handy and the handle looks comfortable and secure. The stripes aren't really my thing but otherwise, it looks great.

I like it a lot. I like the handle design quite a bit. I really enjoy the forward jimping on the skinner you made and really like it on this blade as well.

I'm not a fan of the tiger stripes but it's not my blade and it was customer specs so oh well

Thank you all for the comments. I think the tiger stripes are a love them or hate them kind of thing. Certainly not everyones cup of tea but they do set a knife apart from the pack. I really like the way this one turned out and may end up making one similar to this to carry on those all to rare chances I get to go bumming around the woods.

This particular piece of lignum vitae had some really nice streaking that I havent been able to get in that wood very often.

This is the first ferro rod handle I've made. I like the way it turned out and thought it looked pretty good with this knife.

Now I just hope the buyer likes it. He is the one I'm trying to make happy with this one.

Thanks again for the comments guys.
Stay safe out there.

It looks like a very well made knife. The only thing I could think of was to maybe stone down the corners at the edge of the jimping. its hard to tell without feeling it but they certainly look sharp for long extended use. Mac

Pict, I did leave them a bit on the sharp side. I figured this would help with using the firesteel. It would be easy to slightly round off those edges. When the new owner gets this I will ask his opinion after he uses it for awhile but your suggestion is a valid one. I'll take that into consideration on the next one.

I hadn't thought about that fine line between being grippy and being uncomfortable.

I have the same jimping on a knife I recently bought from SDS. I wouldn't say they are sharp, but provide A LOT of traction for your thumb, and fore finger in this case. I like the jimping a lot as some other knives I've owned have been way too rounded and was more decorative than functional.

Not a great pic but you can kind of see it one of his other knives.

Very nice, SDS. Looks like a well-made, practical field knife.

1. Handle looks comfortable with rounded contours (nothing worse than working with sharp scales).
2. Nice rounded butt for palming the handle.
3. The butt is in line with the tip of the blade (I can't understand the dropped butts or pommels on some so-called "bushcraft" knives).
4. Sharp jimping can certainly make an effective ferro rod scraper. However, when doing push-cuts with the thumb, sharp jimping can be a problem (easily remedied quickly with a stone). I would keep the jimping sharp on the forward part of the blade for scraping.
5. That Lignum Vitae should be tough as nails and last a century or two.

The owner of this new knife should be very, very happy with the results.

This one is MINE ALL MINE and it is nothing short of BAD-ASS with USE me written all over it. I had Shawn make this one for me. I personally think he should charge more for his knives because his skill is just nothing short of outstanding. I was impressed with one of his earlier models and that tiger stripping is cool.. Thx Shawn for a really great knife

Yup! I don't like 'em. Although I'll say this, if that's what the customer wants, you did a fine job and I respect that.

Rock on, Partial! Looks like you got yourself an excellent blade there :)

The knife looks really good; solidly-built, no BS, just a good handy cutter. I would have put the upper small pin near the blade a bit further back, to match the curve of the front of the scales... but that's a pretty small detail. I love the way the knife and ferro-rod match so well, right down to the flared thong tubes. I aspire to that kind of quality.

SDS, did you make the sheath too? Looks like a nice one. overall!
