Attention BUSH WAKIZASHI MEGA and TYRANT KATANA MAGNUM OPUS - PRE ORDER THREAD: NOW OPEN

Glad to see I didn't miss this yet.
I'm in for a launch special bush waki with OD green terotuf, and a katana though I wanted to ask if it's possible to have the themed guard but default pommel, and would love to be able to see some pictures of the grip materials as well as the sheath before making final judgment on the options.
You got it! You can wait and see all the finalized pommel and guard options before making your final call.

Are there any plans for an alternative stylized pommel design? The only reason I dislike the current render is that I do not like the mitsudomoe symbol.

Huntsman Knife Co. LLC. Huntsman Knife Co. LLC. , Hunter, what happened to the std Bush Waki with the cost of $400 deposit and $950 Total?

What’s the difference between the Mega and the std. Bush Waki?

Sorry if I missed the differences or a post about it.

I’d really been looking forward to the Bush Waki pre-order, but, not sure I can or will spring for the Mega cost. Sorry I don’t mean to be a cheapo, but too many other financial priorities and obligations right now.

If I’m gonna be out in the yard or the forest chopping down trees and beating the tar out of it, I’d rather have a base model as I’d feel less guilty about it lol.

Obviously, I am not hunter, but after watching these threads grow and change it seems like the specs and details of the waki has also. I mean we all saw what happened to Nate when he sold the preorders for the k18 at some ridiculously low price. He ended up losing money and kicking himself in the ass. Busse's 16 inch production short sword is about 1k and from the details, it looks like hunters will have all the bells and whistles as to a semi custom, while adding length which is the reason I ordered. Sorry things are tight for you, but man, scrape up that extra dough. Just like all the pre-orders I've missed. You'll have an erection so hard looking at everyones waki's you might end up spending more later.

Correct you are not Hunter which is why I asked him lol. It’s easy to say just suck it up and buy it anyways.

So my choices are

-Pay my mortgage or buy a sword for a grown man.
-Family funds, food, and insurance or buy a sword for a grown man
-Phone bills or buy a sword for a grown man
-Replace needed front brakes including new OEM calipers, rotors, and pads, or buy a sword for a grown man
-Replace leaking radiator for my needed work vehicle or buy a sword for a grown man
-Prior obligations for purchases that are just finished and now due or buy a sword for a grown man
-Other living priorities and essentials for myself and family or buy a sword for a grown man
-Pay a pile of medical bills that accrued over the last 8 months and being out of work due to it, or buy a sword for a grown man

If I’m not going pay it now for a sword for a grown man, I’m not going to pay more later.

I think just answered my own questions here haha.

Curious which you prioritize to buy a sword for a grown man? Lol. As I stated I’m not sure I can or will swing it for the Mega right now. It’s not a great time due to life, hence the question. Best case for me is the std. will be a pre-order coming up after the Mega later this year….

I understand, just sharing my opinion.

Personally, I liked the design changes that were made, the length, handle materials, and pommel. And you're right, the only changes that were negative were the added costs, but I understand why. Still in awe how he could pull this off and still make a profit, but he's obviously smarter than I am. Or a better knife maker and lawyer anyway.

But yeah, life is all about priorities, and you have to do what you have to do. Good luck on your choices.

Great question! As we were working through the modeling and prototypes, we just weren't happy with the performance of that iteration of the Waki. We realized that it needed to be bigger, and also, I didn't want to release something with standard slab scales after all the months of work we did developing the full hidden tang assembly. The full hidden tang handle with the guard and pommel is so next level that it felt like we were going backwards releasing a blade with slab scales.

The Bush Waki Mega is just a much better overall blade. Its definitely expensive, but I think compared to other things on the market, its a great value. I think its 1000% worth the extra cost vs. the smaller concept Bush Waki with slab scales.

We are going to release a "Bush Waki Basic" at some point, but we still have to do alot of R&D. Turns out, making something that's cheap is really expensive. 😅

You are correct and honestly it is a hell of a price for what I’m sure is an amazing sword! K-18 or Katana from CPK was never in my want wheelhouse because what the heck is a grown man going to do with a sword, really??? Lol.

The thing that hooked me about the bush Waki is it is made to take the abuse you throw at it, and is made for chopping stuff, so it could be real world useable and I could justify that (If I could afford it currently lol).

No doubt it would be worth every single penny and definitely not disputing that, just life is frustrating sometimes when you have to juggle wants vs. needs. The pre-order just came at a terrible time for me.

I totally get this. Its brutal right now. I think everyone feels the squeeze to some degree regardless of income level.

Thats why I'm so humbled and grateful to all the customers who have supported this project. Spending $1000+ on a sword in this economy is no small thing. I'm going to make sure that these are special pieces that will stand the test of time and hopefully retain their value well.

BTW...grown men spending money on well made swords was how the world ran for a few thousand years 🙌 I wonder if the Samauri had the same arugments with their wives?

No Togukgawa, you don't need to be spending all that gold on a new Katana, we have to repair the stove and buy a new horse.

Thanks for the explanation on all that. I must have missed the extra info prior.

Unfortunately $1K for me right now isn’t “cheap” muchless 1K+. I’ll see myself out now lol.

I’d be in for a Basic if it had slab scales.

Very excited to see this project through. Hunter, any thoughts on the saya lacquer? There's a pretty wide variety of colors in the handle choices. You very kindly aren't locking anyone in until we have visuals on all the options, but are you thinking to have multiple lacquer color choices to pair with the handle material colors?

Base/ default will be black lacquer and then Ill be running a bunch of special colors and options. If you get a cool handle, you have to have a matching theme'd saya....

Good morning, Hunter, and happy friday. Just wondering if you can give us any updates on the waki? No rush, just super excited about this one!
