BushBuddy Back Packing Stove

jca21,

I bought that Pronghorn back when I had a 401(k) account instead of a 201(k)....

Wouldn't be doing it right now!

Anytime I see a wood burning stove I think that I might be better off forgetting about high altitudes where there is NO NATURAL FUEL TO BURN AT ALL... and go down into the woods. :D :D :D

took the bush buddy with me on a trip recently. thought i'd throw up a pic of it being used in the snow.

there was plenty of ice so i through a couple spruce boughs down to keep it from sliding around.

I'm guessing something like that create a hotter cooking source over something like the Makaira Metal backpack stove? I'm just curious because something like the Bush Buddy seems like it would be difficult to pack efficiently.

If it nests within your pot, as it does with JC's there, then it's not really taking up any more space unless you had other stuff packed in your pot that it displaced.

Thats a good point Grape, I hadn't thought of that. Though most of my pots are about half that size, so I guess for me the point is somewhat moot.

Dumb question...once the stove is lite...can you continue to feed the fire through the hole in between your cook pot and the stove itself? Or do you have to remove the pot first to gain access to feed wood?

not a dumb question at all. you can feed the stove through the opening you see in the top picture without having to remove the pot.

heres a video of how it works, also a review.

jca21,
I wanted to thank you for posting this review. I have one coming for my birthday and am pretty excited to get out and use it.

no problemo scot, glad i could be of some use :D

@bushman: yeap those first series of pictures are from buntzen.

the one i posted recently with all the snow is from norvan falls :)

This is awesome! Thanks...I wonder how this compares to the Kelly Kettle?

Also, does the Bush Buddy fit inside a cook set? If so can someone post a pic?

I'm seriously considering the BB Ultra to test out...thanks again.

i would say its more flexible than the kelly kettle in that its alot smaller and you its not limited in that you need to have water in the kettle anytime the fire is going. i've warmed cold hands on this stove as well during my snow outting.

yes my bushbuddy nests perfectly inside my cook set. almost seems like the ib cookset was designed to go with it :)

i've read some snow peak models also working perfectly with it as well as the titan kettle from msr.

i keep my bush buddy in a large ziploc bag inside my cookset so i dont get the inside of my pot sooty. if you give me a little while i'll post some pics of how it nests.

Awesome! Thanks for the extra effort with the photos....I use the MSR Titan Ti .85 liter kettle and I'm gathering from what you've said the Bushy will fit inside it?

quirt, from my research online it seems that the bushbuddy fits very snuggly into the titan kettle. that being said, some people are saying that it'll fit but you have to flip the lid over which leads me to believe that it'll be very snug.

i got my ib cookset for $35 CAD so with the current US dollar advantage over the Canadian you could probably get a good deal on it.

but yes, people are saying online that the bush buddy does fit into the titan kettle.
