I wonder since when is bushcraft performance a measure of a good knife? I personally got some shit from bushcraft community and so did my friend, it ranges from steel snobism to just "I know the best" rage. Luckily this forum has people who know to appreciate all kinds of steel and all shapes of blades, which is why I like this place
I also apologize in advance for long post.
First I just entered few groups on Facebook, and there you have it, if you have anything else except a scandi grind puukko style knife or a Mora - they'll just go ape on you. Just post a tanto on there and watch them lose their minds
Or you'll face barrage of insults for owning Bear Grylls knife
I bet there are better ways to educate someone but OK...
Comments on youtube videos of knife reviews - majority about bushcraft.
The guy I know entering DBK chat on discord, and crew starting to bully him for owning CS AK47 field knife and liking 52100 steel on drop forged knives? (Just to mention, it wasn't youtubers who talked shit to him, it was just guys on there, including a moderator). He said actual youtubers are always cool to everyone on there, but rest of the guys seems to be easily triggered and not very stable (majority of them that is).
To make it better, the guy who gave him shit about knife having name AK-47 also bragged about his TRC Apocalypse while doing it
AK-47 is a no-go name... but Apocalypse is perfect
Long story short - they hated on 52100 for being old, and outclassed by new super steels... and compared him to some dude who liked D2. Because everyone has 400€ for a knife, right?
Then guys on facebook giving you shit about tanto or double edge knife being unsafe will also reccomending you a slick handle knife without hand guard
And they will go full aggressive on you with suggestions what you need to buy because it's good for bushcraft, while ignoring you telling them you don't do bushcraft
These things just make no sense to me, just let me enjoy my 3V Warcraft Tanto and my plain carbon steels in peace.
Not everyone can or wants to spend hundreds of $ or € on a knife, and not everyone does bushcraft. If someone wants combat or tactical style blade - let them enjoy it. Same goes for steel, if someone likes their D2, 1095, 52100 or 5160, just let them enioy it. That steel does what they want it do for them and that's all that matters. And insulting someone for liking something different is just childish.
So I'd like to hear your non-bushcraft knives and their use
