Bushcraft community hate towards non-bushcraft knives? What's up with this bushcraft craze? šŸ˜‚

The biggest reason many use Facebook is to prove to themselves how great they are and how enviable their life is. I had an account there 12 or 14 years ago. It took a month or two to realize that and I deleted my account and haven't been back since. While there is some of that kind of negativity here, I have found that most of the members on Bladeforums want to learn and to share what they know.

Facebook is your problem, I think. I was trying to think in what world did bushcrafters dislike non-bushcraft knives, as a whole, and that makes far more sense than the larger communities like BCUSA and much of the crossover from forums like the Esee forums or even from here.

I found the blade steel snob thing entertaining because on BCUSA, you can barely convince many that there's a better steel than 1095, or basically any carbon steel that's easy to put an edge on. It's like they're just now finding out about stainless steels and figuring out there's steels like AEB-L that are stainless, take an edge well, and are tougher than 1095 at equivalent hardness. Many would still choose a carbon steel because of nostalgia or because they like how it shows it's age much better (I like a good, earned patina as well).

Don't take it personally, you probably don't know the people anyway.

Nice piece man 😊

What knife is that?

This whole thread is BS if you ask me . On this forum we have lot of member who like that bushcraft knives and you offend them all. They like that kind of knife and that is their choice !! And some of them make some Facebook fan club where they can talk about that knives , and it s OK with me . Who am I to go there and start talking ******* about their knives ??? I mean , you don t go on exhibition of an old timer Ferrari with Porsche or with Cadillac and start to talk that Ferrari is ***** car and your Porsche is better ???
Nobody there give a **** what are you think about Ferrari , Comprende amigos ?

My guy, I came on here trying to grasp that concept because "bushcraft" keeps popping up on everything knife-related.

Bushcraft does seem to be like interesting skill to do and know, but extremes often go out of hand.

Also, did you recently shit talk someone's tanto on Facebook? Or talked crap in DBK group on Discord? šŸ˜‚
It seems my post really rubbed you wrong way, maybe you found yourself in there?

Your reaction certainly makes me think so.

Anyways, my explanation is here, take it or leave it.

Well first off, I’m not your guy.

Secondly, I don’t ā€œtalk shitā€œ about other peoples choices in knives or other material objects unless they ask for my opinion because they’re not my choices and as rule their choices have nothing to do with me or mine. I simply learn what I can from sources that are related to the topic I’m trying to learn about. Don’t know what a ā€œDBKā€œ is nor do I have any idea what Dischord is. I do use Facebook but I’ve certainly never commented on anyones ā€œTantoā€ . Or any other type of knife for that matter.

I do try to not engage with people who are so invested in their things that they fail to grasp that that investment is usually and mostly emotional but at times, like when people make silly comments about how their feelings got hurt because they weren’t embraced by anonymous people on Facebook and elsewhere I find myself pointing out their silliness.

I actually have seen that BUSHCRAFT!!! focus spill out with one or two people showing an insane level of disappointment that a nice EDC-oriented folder had a crowned spine.

Like bud, it's not for striking fire steels with, not because it's missing a feature, but because it's made for an entirely different purpose than faux cave dwelling.

First I just entered few groups on Facebook, and there you have it, if you have anything else except a scandi grind puukko style knife or a Mora - they'll just go ape on you. Just post a tanto on there and watch them lose their minds šŸ˜‚

Or you'll face barrage of insults for owning Bear Grylls knife šŸ¤”

Social media in general and FB in particular S*CKS!!!

I personally see no redeeeming social value in particpating in them. I boycott them and encourage everyone else who will listen to do likewise

I do have a Twitter account BUT only use it as a newsfeed from LEGITIMATE information sources but I do not "tweet" or "retweet" anything on the platform because I do not see the value in doing that.

Does it make the info more legitimate because you retweet or "like it"? I think not.

I deleted my FB and Instagram accounts LONG AGO and fortunately/happily am unable to look at any info on those sites because I do NOT have an account.

NO way I"m giving them my email, phone number and/or name (real or not) to troll for their financial benefit w/o ANY material benefit to me in return.

If NO ONE would use FB, IM, WhatsApp, Occulus or any other FB owned entity, maybe FB (and the umbrella comapny Meta) would go the way of MySpace which FB supplanted.

IMO, the world would be a better place if it did.

End of rant . . . ;)

As I said, believe whatever you want.

And you sound too emotionally invested here.

I also watch YouTube videos for information purposes but also do not comment on any.

I agree with this. I need FB for university and some family contacts tho.

I feel personally attacked! That is my only complaint about the Hogue Ritter. It should have a sharp spine or a firesteel notch.

I get that some people still find it more "convenient" to use FB to communicate w/PRIVATE groups . . . BUT that doesn't mean you have to troll FB for special/personal interest groups too.

That's where FB starts to become evil because there's no way to vette the information submitted/provided in those groups.

Also, FWIW, I assume you know that it's still possible to communicate PRIVATELY w/university members (teachers/students) and family via email.

Yes, it's inconvenient BUT it is totally PRIVATE (especially if you use an encrypted format like ProtonMail or Signal) and FB (and other social media companies) can't make $$$ off of such emails.

It may be hard to wean a university off of FB (although there are PRIVATE university sponsored email sites, of which I am a member but seldom use) but it certainly should be possible to communicate w/your family by email or through a privately developed website that only your family members can access.

So, NO ONE really "needs" FB, if they are willing to use the available alternatives.

Just a suggestion (or two) in this regard.

I appreciate it. And I completely agree with you.

We all know FB is monitoring our every move, and selling that info. So does Google. Only Telegram and Signal are somewhat private apps.

I admit I fell in trap of convenience, and will sometimes scroll FB when bored, or troll some group like mentioned earlier.

I keep telling myself I gotta uninstall FB, but I somehow still didn't do it. Hopefully, that'll change in near future.
