Bushcraft community hate towards non-bushcraft knives? What's up with this bushcraft craze? šŸ˜‚

Surprise, surprise! Being persecuted for not going along with the crowd. You would think, just by the existence of countless knifemakers, that would be a clue as to how much people's tastes and preferences differ. Instead, to some folks, that's just proof of how clueless everyone is who doesn't think like them.

Preparing for the endtimes in our culture often means the same thing everything else means - lots of internet reading and rampant consumerism, little to no real world experience. My favorite "Bushcraft" knife is a scandi from PL Knives, with a 2.5" blade, and serves the purpose of keeping me from destroying my edge-junky knives. I love my REK Ember, but I would not use it to pare off the endgrain of seasoned hardwood or whittle. Butterknives baton pretty well.

This really is a great summation of many of the bushcraft community. The whole idea of bushcraft originally was to go out and increase your skills and be able to improvise and overcome with little gear. And, Yet most of these people are now incapable if they don't have a $300 dollar knife... They missed the point. There are still a lot of really good people inside the community too.

I’d like to see their reaction to my bushcraft knife of choice: an uber cheap Cold Steel bushman lol.

It’s even there in the name! Bushman, right? šŸ˜…
The Bushman was distributed to 3rd world countries as a cheap tool. I bet they have done a lot of bushcraft disguised as daily life. I have used the hell out mine, although i dont use it much lately.

I think the internet has turned over a new generation of know it alls. They base their searches or YouTube viewing on what they think is ā€œrightā€ or ā€œthe bestā€ and tailor all their viewing upon that. People who back up their opinions are in their good graces and further their know it all mentality. Before all these ā€œbush craftā€ knives were knives people owned… no matter what brand, steel, shape, etc and they figured out how to use what they had to work for them. There is so much available product out there that people forget simplicity or the fact that it wasn’t always available. Do you and worry about what makes you happy and how you’re learning to do your craft. There are all sorts of people out there that work outside the norm for a number of hobbies and skills. They’re the pioneers, not the ones who follow the crowd.

I wonder since when is bushcraft performance a measure of a good knife? I personally got some shit from bushcraft community and so did my friend, it ranges from steel snobism to just "I know the best" rage. Luckily this forum has people who know to appreciate all kinds of steel and all shapes of blades, which is why I like this place 😊

I also apologize in advance for long post.

First I just entered few groups on Facebook, and there you have it, if you have anything else except a scandi grind puukko style knife or a Mora - they'll just go ape on you. Just post a tanto on there and watch them lose their minds šŸ˜‚
Or you'll face barrage of insults for owning Bear Grylls knife šŸ¤”
I bet there are better ways to educate someone but OK...

Comments on youtube videos of knife reviews - majority about bushcraft.

The guy I know entering DBK chat on discord, and crew starting to bully him for owning CS AK47 field knife and liking 52100 steel on drop forged knives? (Just to mention, it wasn't youtubers who talked shit to him, it was just guys on there, including a moderator). He said actual youtubers are always cool to everyone on there, but rest of the guys seems to be easily triggered and not very stable (majority of them that is).

To make it better, the guy who gave him shit about knife having name AK-47 also bragged about his TRC Apocalypse while doing it šŸ˜‚
AK-47 is a no-go name... but Apocalypse is perfect 🤣
Long story short - they hated on 52100 for being old, and outclassed by new super steels... and compared him to some dude who liked D2. Because everyone has 400€ for a knife, right? šŸ˜†

Then guys on facebook giving you shit about tanto or double edge knife being unsafe will also reccomending you a slick handle knife without hand guard šŸ˜‚
And they will go full aggressive on you with suggestions what you need to buy because it's good for bushcraft, while ignoring you telling them you don't do bushcraft šŸ˜‚

These things just make no sense to me, just let me enjoy my 3V Warcraft Tanto and my plain carbon steels in peace.
Not everyone can or wants to spend hundreds of $ or € on a knife, and not everyone does bushcraft. If someone wants combat or tactical style blade - let them enjoy it. Same goes for steel, if someone likes their D2, 1095, 52100 or 5160, just let them enioy it. That steel does what they want it do for them and that's all that matters. And insulting someone for liking something different is just childish.

So I'd like to hear your non-bushcraft knives and their use 😊
Why do you and your friends seek validation from people that you claim not to respect?

You missed the point.
We aren't looking fot validation, we joined there to see some knives and possibly learn something new. To talk, exchange experiences and so on.

And we left from there disgusted by their behaviour šŸ˜…
Well not really but if it makes you feel better than ok. You went ā€œthereā€ expecting people who you don’t know to validate your choices when you wouldn’t do the same to theirs and when they didn’t, for whatever reason you left. Then you posted about how horrible these people were, the same people that you sought out for validation.

Disgusted? Really? Over the comments that some random, anonymous people made towards you? Ok. I guess simply ignoring this disgusting behavior was too much trouble.

At least we aren’t talking about Zombies anymore.

That's because I've eradicated most of them, primarily with this:

My guy, I came on here trying to grasp that concept because "bushcraft" keeps popping up on everything knife-related.

Bushcraft does seem to be like interesting skill to do and know, but extremes often go out of hand.

Also, did you recently shit talk someone's tanto on Facebook? Or talked crap in DBK group on Discord? šŸ˜‚
It seems my post really rubbed you wrong way, maybe you found yourself in there?

Your reaction certainly makes me think so.

Anyways, my explanation is here, take it or leave it.
