Bushcraft Knife challenge - Interest?

will the type of blade steel and construction be listed, i. e. stock removal or forged?

The thing that strikes me is how the bulk of the knives in the challange do not look like "classic" bushcraft knives, yet they work so well in the bushcraft arena. As I suspected going in, this challange has changed my opinion of what a bushcraft knife needs to be. It has also made me re-evaluate what bushcraft really is.

Big Mike

Hopefully we can get you to elaborate on this later. I would be interested in knowing how your mindset was changed by this.

Glad to see full flat ground knives in there. I prefer that over a scandi but that's just me.

I really like flat ground blades, too. But what I want to use depends on what I expect the knife to be doing really.

I asked each maker for a spec sheat and a little info about them. Most have supplied me with that as well as an email addy.

The final thread will have a small bio of each knife maker as well as their website or email addy.

In regards to price. I am not putting that in the final post.

However, there are guys who are selling knives for under a hundred and also guys who's price point is over $300 for these knives. Not to mention hobby knife makers who are not selling their knives. We judged fit and finish the same for all the knives. We did not pull any punches. If I spend over $300 for a knife, you can be damned sure I don't want an uneven grind, gaps in the handle , etc. However, I buy a sub hundred dollar knife, I can let some trivial stuff go.

So I may mention if a knife is a high dollar knfe or not...

The only reason to put pricing and ordering data in after the contest judging, os for ordering purposes. That I can see being okay to do.

I think mentioning price is fair. It won't make a lick of difference in performance results. That is what it is. If you are talking most bang for the buck... then price is a major factor. It is also usefull info for the beginner makers who are not selling at this point. They can see where they fall in line when compared to the folks who do this for a living. This is a great event all around.... for makers, users, lurkers and collectors.

Thanks again for all the hard work guys.

I notice the last post is a few days old. Have the results been determined and have they been posted somewhere else?

No, there was a lot of knives to test and it takes time. Don't worry, it will be worth the wait, I am sure.

Where is the results thread? I tried to find it now for a couple of months, so I am guessing that it did not get finished or my search foo sucks, which is highly likely. But if it is out there and I just cant find it can someone lead me the way!
