bushcraft projects

We've hardly begun to list all the topics we have to cover! :D

Choosing Gear: backpacks, water bottles, emergency rations
First Aid
Signaling
Sharpening / Maintaining Equipment generally

These are topics we've gone over many times,
and we should mine older threads for them.

I had to get creative due to the search engine blowing a gasket with search words like FIRE/SHELTER. But I managed to drag up quite a few good threads.

Survival kits, BOB's, PSK's, and Altiod tins. What is being carried:

Traps, snares, nets, primitive fishing/hunting techniques and tools. Maybe traditional brain tanning would be of interest to some, and I believe someone already mentioned flint knapping and stone tools.
A simple project I know of is a sort of primitive "lawn chair", consisting of a woven grass/reed mat and two support sticks buttressing the back and a cross piece. Deceptively convenient to have when sitting around a fire and/or performing other tasks, and easy to accomplish. I'm sure I could think of more to add, but those are what spring to mind at the moment.
I look forward to seeing where this ends up, and I know that a lot of people here have wide skillsets and suggestions to offer. Great thread if you ask me.

It would be cool to organize these one at a time, have everyone that wants to participate take pics, and then post them.

agreed it would work as like a suport group we pick a project and take pics of ower progress at the end of a set time frame we all post pics and ideas extra. im in for that

cause i dred cordage and net making. bow drill won't be to bad and shelter buliding got that in the bag. i like the idea we should try to put a group together to do this.

what would we call the thread???

Hey Esav, another thought. Right now, I think most people post pictures from their photo host. After awhile these pictures are deleted. Is there a way to make them a permanent part of this forum?

I can't answer for Esav Doc, but from what I understand about BF unless you have a membership, there is no way to attach pics (that is upload pics to the BF server) unless you pay for a gold membership.

Gold members can upload a certain amount of bandwidth worth of pictures directly from their own computer. As long as they keep those pictures in their BF file, they will remain.

If they keep them on their hard drive and their photo host deletes them, they can restore them and relink, I guess.

Esavs probably been covered up - as much work as it looks like he had already been doing on this, I know he has the interest to make it happen.
We might want to let him get through the Holidays first -and then shoot him a follow up email?

I'm really stoked about this, especially looking forward to the navigation links.

BTW, he mentioned he had a blog - anyone have a link?

I'm surprised that this thread just now resurfaced. I've been reading in on it, just haven't posted yet. I too am surprised that this isn't a sticky yet.

Been working a little bit on my bushcraft, made a few survival whistles just after I made my "candle lantern" out of a coke can that I found at a park.

My next "coke can" project is going to be the "penny stove." Hopefully I don't burn the house down.

ps. looking forward to this being a sticky so I don't have to keep looking for it, J.

Are we limited to posting projects for a certain item(cordage making etc.) at a certain time or if we do something can we just post it when we are completed?
