Bushfinger, still the king of the Fiddlebacks

Just to be honest I don't notice it enough on a smaller blade to justify the $40 up-charge. Again, personal preference.

Same for me. I like the look but probably couldn't tell the difference in hand, without looking.

I have few illusions that, elbow-deep into processing a heffalump, say, I'd be prone to wish, "Dang, if only this knife had a tapered tang!"

However, here in my little world where I revel in the contrasts and comparisons between different knives, I have discovered that every tapered tang knife I've handled has a more forward balance point-- at or near the front set of pins vs. the second pair-- and every SFT knife has a more central balance point.

Relative considerations, of course, and possibly negligible in use(?), but I just plain like the feel of the forward weight better, especially in 5/32-- I lurved the feel of @Warrior108's TT Bushfinger and Bushnub, respectively, the distinctly forward whomp-whomp. And since my Fiddleback Forays are all about what I actually like...?

(Not that some of my SFT knives aren't among my favorites, in looks and in feel. But yes, I prefer TT.)

I have always felt dubious about whether the weight/balance difference is really detectable. Especially with that difference swimming around with the plethora of other 'handmade' variance factors going on from knife to knife.

Yeah, I can see that, all the more when you handle as many knives as you do, the same patterns with different appointments and different hands along the way. But I'll venture the TT knives are still going to evince a more forward balance than they would if they were SFT...?

The look cannot be doubted. They look cool. Maybe this forum crowd of very practiced knife handlers can feel a difference.

Yup, and a provisional "yup." ;-)

That being said, there are undoubtedly many people out there oblivious to aspects such as balance and tapered vs full tang and so forth. And based on preference, a person might like a fat handle and a full tang so there is more weight towards the back.

This does seem to be the case, after all. Something for everyone. o_O
