Busse and Kin Edge angles

Haha! Too funny. I probably do owe him money. :p

Rob_Mob should be the spokes person for the WE system. The insight that he has shared has really helped me make the decision that the WE will be my next big purchase (after my next four Busse Combat knives are paid off.) I greatly appreciate the honest advice he has shared with us. Thank you bud!

And since it hasn't been said in a while... Mystery Grab Bags! Soooo frickin excited.

Its a trap! Actually I just picked up the WE system on Rob's advice I'm still working on figuring it out but hopefully I can get my first re-profile done soon. I went with 19dps that seems to be a good working edge and I'm liking the results just need to get that mirror polish going.
PS I think Rob should start a thread with a compendium of WE knowledge I pick up something interesting in almost every thread he has made comments about the WE.

Rob_Mob,
My internet search skills suck apparently. I love your edges. Idolize them in fact. Where can I see them in action? I'm not a good tracker when it comes to this googley stuff. But I want to see them rock and roll. Dems definitely sharp.

Edit: RCB2000... You on the old CZ forum? I mean like back in 2002 or so? Your name looks mighty familiar.

Much love to the good peoples of this forum. Peace and goodnite.

If you owe him money, yes, it's me :D
No, not me, sorry!
And yes, Robs edges are insane

Thanks guys!! Honestly you guys are too kind ---- I just do what works for me. There's a lot of more seasoned piglets here who swear by simpler means to achieving a sharp edge. I just strive for the "next level" --- I like to blind the timber with the sun's reflection bouncing off the mirror edge before I thrust it's sharp honed teeth into it haha ;)

I'm thinking about making a couple of videos to show the performance of the knives after it's been optimally sharpened --- I'll try to get that done in the next week or so --- I'm kind of challenged when it comes to making videos -- but I'll figure it out and try to showcase

Thanks brother -- im happy to do that and/or happy to chime in anytime someone needs help. My whole life is consumed by helping and special needs kids with behavioral therapy and helping adults with court ordered services as a business/career ---- so why not help out with a hobby that I absolutely love. Cheers friends!

Maybe Rob is WE's Representative lol

Shhhhh --- I'll never tell --- lol j----k

He definitely should look into getting a piece of all the WE sales in this forum.

Now you're on to something . . . ;)

On most production knives, the edge is thickest at the tip. This is done to avoid a fragile tip. Most manufacturers, also grind the edge more obtuse near the tip to add strength and keep the edge appearance uniform. Reprofiling the entire edge to a uniform angle will create a larger flat area at the tip and reduce tip strength.

Indeed sir that is correct and true --- however I have found that the strength issue that is often cited is a bit exaggerated and blown out of proportion. I personally enjoy the aesthetic appeal of a bevel that grows taller near the tip. To each their own though.

I also suspect that the main reason why manufacturers avoid consistent angles all the way through --- is because it is tedious and time consuming and difficult to ensure uniform quality control . . . That's just my suspicion though

Nice work Rob!!!

A couple oldies but goodies of mine that I thinned out not long after I learned to convex well on my 1"x30" (along with my version of the Busse penetrator tip). :D These two are about 30-32 degrees inclusive. The Battle Guard is one heck of a slicer being FFG with a pretty thin edge!!! That one does not get used for chopping!
