I know we are not allowed regrets .... but I certainly made a "mistake" not picking up your Basic Set Dennis ..... still ... there is always the possibility for another chance .....
If you want a full-size carry knife that will give you maximum durability in the most portable size/weight package, superb ergonomics, with a blade long enough to baton efficiently and forward-balanced enough for light chopping without being so long as to make point-work awkward, then yeah ... It IS The One...
I couldn't have said it better myself. I definitely concur with Brother Will's assessment of the Busse Basic 7 as an optimal knife to actually carry and use hard in the outdoors.
It is small and light enough to ride well on the belt and be quick in hand when needed, yet is long enough for minimal chopping and Busse-tough & ergo enough to withstand rigorous long-term use without fatiguing the user's hand. As was said, if you sharpen it according to the cheat sheet that came with them (trailing-edge stroke on a ceramic rod sharpener applied to the flat-ground side only of the asym edge) the edge is pretty easy to maintain.
There are better slicers (super thin geometries) and better choppers (kuhkris) out there, but like INFI itself, the beauty of the BB7 is it's combination of characteristics that allow it to cover a wide range fairly well, even as it fails to totally shine at any one of them. Thus it's high ranking in my regard as "The ONE to carry when you can only carry one."
So I'm thinking that you're a pretty lucky Hog if you've just happened onto your first Basic.
Now if they had only come with a usable choil, which of course you can always add.
