there's ridiculous, then there's that.

wow, someone watches too much Conan and Krull movies as an adult.

I'll take it!

How do you like the 3v?

That's a looker for sure!

Thanks for the compliment. I do like 3V--have been using it for almost ten years since it came out. Holds a good edge and isn't as rust-prone as some non-stainless steels, although it's not as rust-resistant as INFI. Also gets very sharp.

I do wonder about the claims of its uber-toughness, but I've not pushed it hard enough in testing or use to know from experience whether they're valid. I do know that a couple of very knowledgeable knifemakers have had less than stellar performance from blades that have been used hard on materials like bone and frozen wood. Seems once the steel has been flexed beyond a certain point it may lose some integrity, which makes impacts and torqueing on thin edges and points prone to weaken the steel and reduce long-term performance/blade life for these kinds of apps. Just hearsay, but as I say, from some knowledgeable sources. I do know Cliff dropped a 3V blade point first onto a concrete floor resulting in the point being bent to one side, which in itself isn't an indictment, but afterward he could flex the tip back and forth with his fingers, which I personally found surprising.

In any case, 3V has performed well for me on wood and softer materials, so no gripes here. Of course, so has 5160, 1095 and 1055. Personally, I wouldn't put 3V in the same class with INFI.
